If the valves were ticking it would be a lot louder than this ticking you guys are hearing only some of the time.

The fuel pump ticks
The fuel injectors do tick
Sometimes emissions valves and so forth can tick

These are all quiet ticks....if you all had engine problems with bearing or valves the ticking would definitly be a lot louder.

Sorry guys if I wasn't clear with the opening post. Amended.

Car goes in to Porsche Thursday, for me its important that it is noted and documented just in case it has to be rectified at a later date....outside of the warranty.

So.... I was told by the head mechanic that he knew exactly what it is. It has to do with air that is allowed into the exhaust ( CO2 sensors ? ) enabling to burn off excess fuel. ( Located at the top of engine, left side thckened black tube ? )
This is why it only happens some of the time, and not all of the time. Perfectly normal operation.

Hope this makes some kinda sence guys,

Neil

Mumbles. Mine ticks too. Relax and enjoy the car!

They're machines with moving parts. Some noises are unavoidable.

I know, I know, but at the end of the day its an engine, and a pricey one at that.
Just needed to know what the noise was.

Years past now there was an old lady that claimed she could hear her dog "buzzing" in the night when all else was quiet. Everybody wrote her off as crazy but in the end one sleepy intern doing the night shift at a veterinary college heard it too. Years before the dog had gotten in a fight and his ear bitten and in the ensuring healing process a narrow shunt formed between two blood vessels causing the blood to accelerate and "buzz".
So moral of the story is if you hear it, it's real! (ok - off-topic story but interesting nevertheless, right?
