Hello folks!
New to this forum. I like all the information that I'm getting so far.
I'm in the market for a 2005, 2006 C2S and wanted to know if there were any exterior differences between the two model years... maybe even go as far as 2007, 2008. Can I tell any of the 997.1 by just looking at it?
I'm aware of the IMS problems of the 2005 model year and if the bearing can be replaced, I'm not too worried.
Thanks in advance!

i believe the only difference between the 2005 and 2006 cars would be the 2006 has the tire pressure monitoring system. other than that, and maybe some internal parts the cars are the same. no external difference.

Exterior-wise, there is no difference. However, when you peek through the glass you will see a difference between the early 05 cars and the MY06 cars--the PCM is visually different--with the addition of the numeric keyboard on the MY06 cars.
With each succeeding year more and more options became available that would not be available in the prior year. For example, the XRR Carrera Sport wheels didn't show up until the Spring of 06 when the AWD Carreras were introduced.
There are more little things but most are internal and way down on the 997 trivia scale.

My '05 is 12/04-build and has the numeric keyboard. What is different from the '06s I've seen is my shift **** has a black enamel inlay with the pattern in white, vs all-aluminum as I've seen on later models.

Thanks for all the info guys!
With your info, I got an '06 Carrera S manual with 38000km for a good price! Really excited about it.
Everything is good, but... there are lots of rattles and squeaks in dash/center console(radio area). I know I'm being hard on a car that's 6 years old and has got a stiff suspension... Any suggestions?

Open the windows and the sunroof, put a Metallica CD in the radio and turn the volume up as loud as you can stand it, sing along at the top of your lungs, and keep the revs above 4000. That should almost mask most of the rattles and squeaks. One thing I can suggest you don't do is try to chase them down and fix them. The fixes are temporary at best, and as soon as you fix one, another rattle will begin. You'll drive yourself daft and kill the enjoyment. These are sports cars, not luxury cars. (Well, until the new 991 that is...though you'd think if they can design a special system to pipe-in the engine sound, they might also figure a way to pipe-out the rattles
)

Feel the same way about motorcycles. Put a loud pipe and say good bye to all rattles.
Cheers!
