Default Spacers advise

Thinking of putting wheel spacers in my 2007 997s, but I really don't know much about it... Wondering about the following:

- how much mm should I go with the spacers?
- do spacers effect driving/steering characteristics?
- should I do both front and rear, or just the rears?
- where is a good place to buy spacers?

Thanks!

Suncoast products sells spacers.

Not sure if you have to upgrade to a longer lug nut ( could be expensive )

Good luck tho !

Any spacer thicker than 5mm will require longer wheel bolts.

Why are you thinking of getting spaced out?

The 5mm spacers I bought from Suncoast included new wheel bolts and locking bolts

The 5mm Porsche package looks good and comes with everything you need. I'm running it right now with 18" rims on my 4S. There is a more aggressive Porsche spacer you can put on the back, something like 17mm I think. It attaches to the hub with your stock bolts, then the wheel attaches to the spacer. I tried it for a while and it does make the car look very aggressive, but the bolts (studs?) have a different appearance and I didn't like that. The car is a little sharper after installing spacers but you stop noticing within a day.

7 mm front and 15 mm rear seems to be the spacer of choice on a NB 997's.

I had 5 mm Porsche OEM spacers before I swapped them out. 5 mm just didn't look that much different compared to no spacers.

H&R makes both spacers and longer bolts.

Automotion.com is a good source if you go that direction.

I used 7 and 15 on my 09 C2S and they filled out the wheel wells. I'd use longer bolts with any spacer. The total thread engagement is there for a reason. You put a lot of load on a wheel in a corner.

what spacers do on handling? Can you only put them on the front to reduce understeer?

I'd be cautious buying 'off-brand' spacers especially on eBay.

I suggest buying from a recognized manufacturer (like H&R) to reduce the chance of problems. They might cost you more but they're great quality and proven.

H&R make good quality spacers. Their made in Germany. 7mm front and 15mm are perfect fit for the 997. You will need longer wheel bolts.

I also recommend the guys at Wheelenhancements.com, who were recommended to me by my P dealer for my spacer/wheel setup for winter.
