Default How do I clean this? Ran over some paint....

Ran over some paint today and it's in the wheel wells...didn't realize it until I got back home, What's the best way to remove it?

Someone has suggested using gas... any other ideas?

I had that happen to me when I was driving a Volvo. The DOT dropped ~ 10 gallons of yellow pavement paint in the middle of the road. After i got home I took the wheel off and hit the liner with my pressure washer. It removed about 80% of the paint since most of the paint did not stick well due to the dirt on the liner. After the liner dried I sprayed the liner and the rest of the yellow road paint with a can of flat black spray paint. For the next 120k miles I never saw the yellow paint again.

The paint is actually kind of rubbery. It came off the car paint without too much trouble. I'll try a high pressure washer this weekend.

Happened to me once while backing out of my driveway after not realizing that my waste service does not pick up paint cans. Got paint all over the wheel wells and part of my brick driveway. Imagine my surprise when nearly all of it washed away with a simple garden hose and a little paint thinner. Because (I think) 1) I did it right away and 2) it was latex as opposed to an oil based paint.

I would think that a pressure washer would do the trick.

Oh man, been here! I ran over a huge spill of DOT White that was brand new with my '02 740i. I took the car to my body/paint connection and he removed the fender liners to try to get the paint off. If I remember correctly, he was able to salvage 2 and I had to replace 2. About $500 (in 2004). I'm a bit nuts about wheel wells, too...I use Griot's Undercarriage spray after washing to blacken them up.

2nd on the WD40, but do it as soon as you can. The longer you wait the worse it will be.

Don't use gasoline! It's not meant for anything but fuel. The paint is probably some type of epoxy. When cured, it's permanent unless you can somehow pry it from the surface. One thing you have going for you is sometimes these types of paints don't adhere well to plastics. A water jet might be your best bet short of blacking it out with flat enamel. On the off chance this is some other kind of softer paint, you might try, very carefully, in small amounts, acetone. Be sure to use caution on plastic parts because they may soften. Good luck!

Pressure washer first. If not, then try acetone. if not, then paint thinner. Definitely, not gas- bad advice if you ask me.
