Default MP3 CD playback

Hello,

I was informed that my in dash deck (2006 C2S) should be able to play CDs with mp3 files. However, mine does not. I created the CD with itunes using the mp3 option. Is there anything I am missing?

I did search, but all I could find was that it should be able to play.

Thank you.

See what software version do you have on your PCM. MP3 playing capability only comes with a mix of hardware (your PCM) and software (version 3.0)

as a side note, I would suggest investing on some kind of an iPod solution, like Eric's Dension. It works pretty well and I have all my songs on tap! Just give Eric at bumperplugs a call. You can even install it yourself.

I have a 2005 that plays MP3s just fine although the first time I tried it I needed to put the disc in about 5 times before it was able to recognize the CD.

I have an early '06 C2S (built in August '05) that plays mp3's without problem. I simply copy the music folders with the mp3 tracks onto a CD and the unit reads both the folders and the tracks, and I am able to navigate through them with the PCM controls. I don't know if the iTunes software would throw a monkey wrench into the sitiuation, but I'd try another CD without using iTunes and see what happens.

I will definitely try that. Thank you.

Worst case, is there a way to upgrade the software on my PCM?

I don't know if it's already been mentioned in this thread but if you have a PCM w/ no phone function (early PCM) it doesn't have the hardware needed to decode MP3 files. Now, if you have a PCM w/ phone capabilities you may or may not be able to read MP3 files. It depends on both PCM hardware and software levels.

A lot of early PCM's were replaced by Porsche in the 2005 and 2006 MY cars for various reasons. You can have early 2005 build 997 w/ a newer PCM that just might read MP3 files.

2nd.
Haven't played a mp3 cd in almost 5 years now since installing the Dension.
And it's only $410 right now through Eric.

This might be your answer...

I too have an '06 C2S and plays MP3 on the head unit using this method. Haven't tried burning a CD with iTunes.

However, the CD changer in the frunk does not play MP3 CDs. This is normal, I take it?

have you tried to play the disc elsewhere? iTunes usually won't convert songs purchased through iTunes into mp3s for copyright issues.

iTunes now has the option (you must manually perform it though) to convert any iTunes purchased apple file into an MP3 so that shouldn't be an issue any more.
