Black plastic shards in my oil filter..IMS seal?

Do whatever you like with the oil changes, and I would personally change the oil shortly after work on the lifters myself. I definitely wouldn't change the oil normally every 2500 miles though.
I'm sure you've heard it before but my humble recommendation is to drive the car often and at varying RPMs. You've had a (sticky?) lifter replaced which is a common issue with cars that sit for too long.

BTW, the lifters were changed due to a repeated CEL that was chased down a very long diagnostic path to the valve train (lifters/variocam). There was never any detectable noise from them.
This oil change was at about 1500 mi. since the lifter change. As I stated, no metal, just this rubber stuff.
Thanks everyone, consensus seems to lean toward the valve cover sealant. I'll take the filter to my mechanic on Tues and let him look at the stuff, too.

I just had all my lifters replaced in my 05. Porshe said they had been having issues with them. They also replaced the metal structure they ride in, and the dual mass flywheel.
I would also like to know when the newer IMS came in with the 05's. And how would I determine when my car was built in that year?

Check the build sticker on the inside edge of your drivers door. You'll see the build date, month/year, in the upper right hand corner. When the actual engine was build is a guess as far as I know...

Very interesting. Same with my car, except it was 4 CEL. You're the only other person I've heard of with this specific solution, but I also got the information that there is apparently an issue with the lifters. My shop got the parts from a large dealer here in Florida and the parts guy said they had lots of them in stock, apparently because there is a call for them (?). Seems odd that this would be a stock item for any other reason. Thanks for the info.

You guys who had the lifters replaced on your MY05, did you have to pay for it or did Porsche goodwill it? I've got a b-b warranty that would cover it, but I'm curious.
BTW, was there something changed in the lifters for early-'05 or just a bad batch? You don't hear about it being epidemic with MY04 (frankly this is the first time I've heard it about an '05 too). Mine's a mid-run build (Dec '04 or Jan '05, I've forgotten), have 38K on it.

Palmbeacher, my Carchex warranty paid for most of this repair. I had about $800 out of pocket because there is a specified diagnostic limit, time wise, and this took significantly longer to pin down than they allowed. I also had my tech drop the sump at my expense to check for debris in the "pan" (there was none). This warranty has paid for a number of things w/o any "on site" visit by an adjuster, but since this repair was about $5500, they sent a guy to my shop to look/listen to my mechanic. There were no arguments about the repair, and I sure understand the need for certain types of repairs or $$ figures triggering an adjuster approval. My shop works with a number of different aftermarket warranties and they have a reputation for no bull****, so they don't get any flack from the insurance/warranty companies. Worked well for me. Essentially, the warranty paid about $4700, I paid about $800.
