Question Differences in Carrera S MY 2009 to 2012?

I tried search and couldn't find anything. Are there any differences (major or minor) in the 997.2 S cars, other than length of CPO warranty?
I'm starting to look for one and there seems to be a pretty significant price dip from '10 to '09 cars. I would want CPO, so I know the warranty will be shorter on the older car but what, if anything else, am I losing?
Thanks...

Every new model year sees minor differences. The Sales department insists even if the engineering people didn't have their list of "things we wanted to include but ran out of time." But I can't think of anything that's been mentioned that caught my eye as "Wow, wish we'd ordered that" and I definitely haven't heard of any design problems.

Some of the first production run of high-pressure fuel pumps were slow to respond when the computer demanded more fuel supply for the direct injection. Few of us noticed symptoms, just minor drivability issues in some situations and those went away when the pump was replaced. Porsche North America is replacing all the pumps from that range of serial numbers as the cars come in for routine service. Some of us got a courtesy call (along with an invitation to look at the latest models of course), but it's simple to check whether the pump has been replaced, and just as simple to have any dealer take care of it if the work wasn't already done. No cost.

That's the only issue I know of, and if all my cars had such trivial concerns I'd be a happy man. I don't know why there'd be a drop in market price of 2009's beyond the one extra year of ownership, but it sounds like one of those buy-low opportunities if you can find a good example.

Only thing i know is that at some point they installed a 3rd radiator on PDK cars. Some options like BT, UAI become standard at some point. Apart from that 2009-2012 997.2's are unchanged AFAIK.

Oh and make sure you have the updated HPFP as Gary says.

I read somewhere that the oil comsumption problems found in many 2009's (being the first year of direct injection) have been solved in the 2011's and 2012's.

I'm not sure when the iPhone integration was enabled but I think it may have been in 2010. It was a big deal for me when I got my car.

All due respect, but the statement that "many" 2009 DFI engines suffer from oil consumption problems (mine certainly doesn't) is unsubstantiated by any legitimate data I've ever seen, other than heresay. Oil consumption concerns have been widely discussed for years across a range of Porsche engines and are not isolated to or absent from any particular model year to the best of my knowledge. To the OP, based on my experience, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 2009. There are minor changes from the earlier cars as have been mentioned above, but nothing that should keep anyone from purchasing one. Price, condition, and mileage should be your only real concerns.

How is this for heresay. I had a new 2009 C2S Cab that used one quart of oil every 500 miles. On page 288 of the owners manual it states that acceptable oil consumption is 1.6 quarts every 675 miles. I had many a discussion with not only the head of service at my dealershi, but also with the Porsche district office in So Cal and Porsche North America back east. They all said the same thing: the new 997.2 DFI engines use mucho oil.

My 2009 has the iPhone integration and has no oil consumption issues

No mechanical changes as far as I know, other than the improved HPFP. Some options like bluetooth and UAI (ipod) became standard or part of a package. The steering wheels may be slightly different.

Oil consumption... Uh!? There we go again. The questions/concerns never stops.

Poor choice of words on my part; should have said anecdotal instead of heresay. This has been discussed repeatedly. A recent poll on the subject on this forum (link below) showed fewer than 2 in 10 997.2 owners used 3 quarts of oil or more in 5K miles. No one used as much oil as you report using and only a few percent were even close.

Admittedly this was just an unscientific forum poll and I'm not saying you personally didn't experience excessive oil useage. I'm just saying that to make a blanket statement that 997.2 DFI engines use "mucho" oil, or even that "many" do, is not supported by any data that I've seen.

Oh oh... 997.2 owners are gonna JUMP like a rabbid dog on you, if you just mentioned .2 and Oil consumption in one sentence!

EDIT: I posted before reading the rest of the therad... as you can see I was right!

That's rabid dog Alex. Many people from British Columbia confuse the spelling of that word. No wait, my apologies, that's an unfair blanket statement based on minimal evidence kind of like......well you know. No rabid dog behavior here, just keeping it real.....

Don't get me wrong...the 997.2 is a wonderful car. However, there are quite a few folks that have had excessive oil usage with the direct injection engines, as has been stated many times on this forum. Porsche expected this to happen, and that is why they put a high normal usage in the owners manual. Most owners did not have this problem, but many did.
