Default Spark plug change - muffler removal & neeeeed help

Team: My 2006 4S is at 60k miles and I am changing the coils and spark plugs. On the passenger side I have removed/replaced the first 2 plugs closest to the passenger. However, the 3rd plug furthest from the passenger is a bear to say the least.

I have the following question: Is the tube with the metal plate that runs from the bottom of the engine over to the muffler and what appears to be to the top of the engine, is that the muffler support and can it be easily removed?

What have you removed to change out that final plug and coil on the passanger side with the exception of the respective exhaust manifold and heat shields?

I have searched the forum throughout but mainly found the 996 instructions and nothing specifically regarding removing the muffler support on the 997 and getting to this last plug.

Thanks in advance.

I also just changed my plugs in another post. I only had to remove the driver and passenger side heat shields to get to the plugs and coil packs. I did not have to remove any of the exhaust as others have. I also have a PSE systems if it makes any difference.

The ones closest to the bumper are difficult to get to but i used a T40 right angle hex wrench which allowed me to undo the coil pack screws. I also slid the rubber electrical boot up and undid the connector latch as its a pain to unclip. To get the plugs out, i placed the plug socket into the bore and then with the other hand slid and attached a 3 inch extension and then slid it in and attached another 2 inch swivel extension and finally connected my socket wrench. You have to do this as its hard to slide a 6 inch extension due to the muffler support bracket.

Its a bit tricky but do able and saved me from undoing the exhaust as i did not want to deal with rusted or snapping bolts and getting the exhaust put back together not sealed tight.

I've done it both ways. (first time plugs, second time coils) It was extremely time consuming using lots of right angle drivers etc without taking the mufflers off. The second time around I bought new muffler bolts and exhaust clamp bolts (good thing because i snapped the muffler bolts when removing). I'd recommend this if the car was driving in winter. I also reassembled with the muffler bolts going from the bottom-up instea of the top-down so that it's easier to get the bolts out next time. It took some wrangling to get the bolts and the muffler out the first time. Some people remove the bumper but it's not ncessary as I assume you have the wheels off.

You need ratchet extensions and u-joint or wobble type. On my 05 I disconnected the bumper cover brace rods and dropped the mufflers. A 30 minute job and got right to the plugs. I know the dealers say they don't do this, I'd like to see how they get around them. Maybe factory tools.

Though I do as much as I can myself for maintenance (oil changes, Brake Fluid change, etc..) after reading the nightmare posts, I ordered parts online and took it to my local Indy to perform labor ($250.00). I waited on car while they did the plug/coil changes (I have them replace them all under premise of "while your in there.."). 2.5 hrs later I was driving home. Sure I could have used the $250.00 for something else but I am certain it wouldn't have taken me 2.5 hours....

To each his own but I know my limitations...

I might be late on this, but its not hard at all. Just removed the muff from that bracket you described that runs under. There's 2 bolts(12mm i think) that hold the muff on that baracket, with a 90degree air rachet and a socket., then the heat shield, and wala, you'll have all the room in the world.

What is the best location on this site to get the "do it yourself" info regarding the 997.2 model?
I'm sure a lot of the info can be used from one model to another as in Bleeding Brakes but where can most of the info be found?
