Default Diminished Value

My 2007 C2S was hit by another car last month. Other driver turned into me causing the replacement of my driver's side door, rear quarter panel, rear bumper, and damage repair to rear rim. All work was done by local Porsche dealer with OEM replacement parts. No structural damage to car. I live in Pennsylvania where we can sue for Diminshed Value.

Any thoughts as to what sort of resale $$ hit my baby took or how to go about coming up with that number. 1k, 10k, 15k? I understand that value will decrease dependent upon how long I hold it. I was thinking of going to a 4s next year so my time frame for resale would be about a year.

Car details if needed:

2007 C2S Cab Black.
26,000 miles
Sport Chrono with PSE
Manual
Bose Upgraded Sound

Thanks for any help with hard to answer question.

Ask the dealer where repair was performed.

Repair was performed by the local Porsche dealer themselves.

I don't think so. Very-very few Porsche dealerships have body shops. I bet they farmed out the body work, but did any mechanical/parts replacement.

Yes, they have their own bodyshop. I visited my baby every three days to see how it was coming along. NO outsourcing.

Nice.

Did you have any medical bills? If not, use this as part of your negotiation process to get a successful & speedy DV claim paid.

You need to get a professional appraisal done, it will cost you about $350. They will give you an idea of the diminshed value of the car for free before you are obligated. I used collision claims associates and got 100% of their appraisal.

No affiliation or anything, just passing on the info.

You'll have an accident to explain to the next owner, so your car will have a "story". You'll be up against plenty of S cars with no issues, so you will have to ask less than market...unless someone fallls in love with your car and you get market value.

10% sounds in the ballpark, IF the repairs are perfect..

I've heard that it can be 1/2 of the cost of the repairs, how much was put into it by the bodyshop?

Around 8k in repairs.

Think half of that is less than 10% of car value - of which I'm unsure of yet. Haven't looked into it. Problem is perceptual but that is the reality of the situation. I asked this question to Porsche dealer and he wouldn't give a value because he said the point is moot - knowing it was in an accident he would never buy it off me to resell.

I used collision claims for my 996 total loss when the insurance company was trying to f me. They're pros. Got very close to what I paid for it.

I went through the same thing a couple of years ago with my 2007 Carrera. $20,000 in damage and got $8,000 for diminished value. There is no exact formula, you will have to negotiate with the insurance company. I did a search on posts on "buying a car that has been wrecked" and showed those comments to the adjuster to prove that it would make a difference to someone buying a Porsche. I think it helped. Try not to go to court, if possible as this may take a long time to resolve and your attorney will get a portion of your money.

If your quarter panel was replaced you have structural damage. That is part of the unibody. I would ask for 20%.

Probably the best scenario is to take the car to your dealer and get a value for your trade in for another new car. Then ask them what they would give you if it wasn't damaged. That should give you the current impact on your car.
