m96 is a 3.6L engine used in all 997.1 base cars. all C2S 997.1 cars have 3.8L engine which is M97.
what you want to know is not engine type - you want to know what version of IMS bearing was used in your engine.
for that you need to know date when engine was made or find engine number, there were posts showing how to use this info. most reliable way is to drop transmission and look at outer nut that holds IMS. If it is a bigger 24mm one - you have 2006 revision of single-row bearing and it is not replacable.
