Default looking for 05-06 Cab...is my pricing expectation reasonable?

I recently passed on a nice low mileage 2002 996 Cab, less than 30k miles and not many options for below $30k. I have started exploring 997 as I do like that model better. I have done lots of reading here on the forum and based on info from few posts, such as a 05 C2S coupe with 40-50k miles was offered a trade in value of mid $30k...So I am thinking mid-upper $30's can get a base C2 Cab in a private party transaction? Since I am looking to pull the trigger between Thanksgiving and New year, ie, another month from now...is my expectation reasonable? I understand the risk of potential teething problem in the 1st yr model and also at that price point, mileage will be probably at least 40-50k miles and probably not fully loaded which is fine as long as it's a stick and with heated seats.... I am not looking for a spotless garage queen as I plan to drive the car quite a bit. I appreciate any input... thanks.

Default used 997 cab

I just bought a 06 cab leather and pretty much everything....no accidents and
19000 miles it was absolutely perfect! I paid 58k
I think with a salvage title and 70000 plus miles you would be $35K .
Just my thoughts good luck!

Buy during the winter for the most of your buying dollar for a cabriolet, but I think you're dreaming at $35K. What I have seen is the prices of these cars going UP instead of down because of the economy. Don't ask me why. Perhaps when the 991 comes out there will be more of the early 997 cabs available. Wait two more years and you can get your price.

Based on my quick research I'd say 'unreasonable'.

I just searched www.autotrader.com for 2005/2006 Porsche 911s any distance from my zip and got 395 cars.

Highest price is $102,998.

Lowest price is $26,795.

Average price is $52,618.

If I use the keyword 'cabriolet' the listing drops to 143 cars.

HIghest price is $79,950.
Lowest price is $26,795.
Average price is $56,252.

Visit www.autotrader.com and enter the make, model, years, zip code, select any distance and do a search and see what cars are offered and for what money.

Happy shopping!

Sincerely,

Macster.

I do not think you are far off. 05 C2 cab with lots of miles (50K) - and you're not that far off. I'd say $40K is very reasonable over the winter.

many thanks for the input from RLers....Here is a quote from Sharkys on 10/18/2011.
"Here is a data point for you, though I'm in S. Cal. Carmax offered me $36K for my fully loaded C2S with PCCBs. They will slap a warranty on it and resell it. It has 48K miles and in great condition as indicated on their paperwork. If I were to sell it, then I would have to price it at around 38K to 40K (but with NO warranty). But I'm too busy driving it too sell it I bought it for 44K last year private party and that is another data point for you. Good luck and don't wait to long or you will be looking forever. Be smart and do your homework so you can sleep at night. Otherwise, by new. Looking forward to my commute this morning"..... So I am not making numbers up...it's a clean and well equipped Cab with no accident. My thinking is that 911s are a specialty car so the markup is unusually high at the dealership. Dealers will try to wait for a fish to bite and they usually get the fish sooner or later. A car similiar to Sharkys will be listed at Carmax for probably upper $40k easily since Carmax is a no haggle place ...the spread is fixed at almost 10k from trade-in to final price with probably couple of $k worth of reconditioning. But If I were to offer him $38.5k, I think there is a good chance that he will let the car go. I also mentioned in my original post that if you were to look for a low mileage 996 MkII, previously CPOed, under 30k miles, the asking price on the website like cars.com or autotrader are easily mid to upper $30's. The owner of a 02 996 Cab with 29k miles is willing to sell to me for 28.5-29K and he is willing let me drive to any PPI shop of my choice and fix any major issue on his tab.
may be it hurt some fo the current owners feeling that early 997s' trade in value has dropped to this level. What I am trying to find out here is from guys/gals like sharkys that has actual fact/data point to present, was his offer just a isolated low ball number from carmax or otherwise. BTW, when I say mid to upper 30's, means anywhere from 35-39k probably more toward upper range than just $35k.

I recently purchased a well optioned 05 C2S cab with full leather and 20K in pristine condition for $51K, which i thought was a great price. I think you're not going to find what you're looking for, but keep at it, that's part of the fun!

Dastro, nice catch and congrats and enjoy.....I am not looking for a S..a basic C2 will do it for me. Plus, 20k miles is super low mileage so definitely worth the premium. But as the mileage creep up, the value will start to take more hit. Personally, I don't mind the mileage so I know the one's I am looking for will be 40-60k miles. given it's going to be a 6-7 yr old car, at 7k miles / yr which is normal range for P cars, there should be fair amount of cars with 45k to 55k miles.

I think you would be very lucky to find any good condition base 997 for under 45k. Used Cayman and Cayman S' go for 35-38k not the 997's.

With the market value going back up i'm noticing the 997S (05+) rarely is seen for less than 50k options or not.

i would think base '06 coupe would be in mid-40K somewhat. cabs are always more expensive, so, you may want to rethink what you want to buy.

or - you can search for an older 996 turbo car in a good condition, it got good motor and after you swap its old PCM to new kenwood or pioneer unit you will have quite a nice car. there are always options.

I had a wholesler offer me $46,000 for my 06 C2 Cab loaded including Navigation. I have Vossen 20" wheels, Eibach springs GT2 wing and 36,000 miles. It was an unsolicited offer, he had seen it at my local Airport Parking Spot several times. It was not enough money for me to try and find another. plus still have extended warranty on mine for 2 more years. Some may say I should have taken the money and ran but i looked at everything out there and none appeared to be as nice as mine and they were all much higher.
Good luck with your search and always do a PPI.

here is an example off cars.com, 06 C2 cab with 55k miles asking $42k, one owner, clean car fax...of course, only PPI can tell if there is any accident history...
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national

any one can spot any trouble...? thanx.

But, depending on what taxes you'll need to pay, we're talking about $10k more than you initially mentioned. 42k + 4k in tax is mid to upper 40's plus a warranty, plus inspections, plus shipping. You're realistically looking more at the low 50's now.
