You may have to reset the window positons but it's very easy - explained in the manual.

They sell the 9volt battery setup at autozone for like $5 including the battery. The cig lighter socket is live so key doesn't need to be on. It was worth the $5 to me for the convenience of not having to reset the radio buttons or Nav stored locations.

I paid $77.95 for a 94R replacement battery at a local farm and garden type chain (Fleet Farm here in WI and Minnesota). It's a Johnson Controls battery and has the identical case as the OEM battery. Took 10 minutes and I didn't lose any settings on my 997.1.
The starter spins quite a bit better with the fresh battery.

Don't even think twice. Get the new battery as noted above and get the cheap battery maintainer as noted above. Plug it in before changing battery, then change the battery. I did this about 1 month ago and was very easy. I didn't loose any info and was well worth it. I researched for hours. Just do it and save yourself alot of issues. Good luck!
