UPDATE:

Given the fact that the car has already lost one year warranty on the lot and the car has 38 miles on the clock I made the dealer an offer on the car that included CPO ($2500, 6 yrs., 100K starting 11/30/10, day orig. warr. was started), inspection for CPO ($400), doc fees ($399) and Clear Bra on front hood and fenders for $82,500. I'll have to pay sales tax in my state of course and either pay to ship it or fly there and take delivery and drive it home (Atlanta to Ohio). That puts it in my garage somewhere between $88,000 - $89,000 depending on how I get the car to Ohio.

If they reject or counter, the search continues...

Don't ship the car. One way flight to Atlanta. Maybe stop at the Tail of the Dragon. Drive home. Change oil. 1/2 way through the 'dreaded' break-in period. Life is good.

White 911 Carrera S - 90,500.00

19" 911 Turbo II Wheels - 890.00

Should I insist that the dealer "throw in" an extended warranty to cover the lost year due to the new car warranty starting in November 2010?

Thanks in advance for any input...

I saw that also and the salesperson verified that was a typo and assured me that it has 38 on the clock.

UPDATE #2:

The dealer rejected my offer, countered with $86,500 but will not include CPO ($2900), Doc Fees ($399) or Clear Bra ($???). Basically, they are around $90,000 without taxes. I'm going to pass on this one and keep looking.

Money is still in my pocket and the car is still on their lot.

Having recently shopped and purchased (2011 C2), I am not at all surprised. There may be some variation throughout the country but I know that in Texas and the Southeastern United States, the stock of new 997s has diminshed and dealers are not giving deep discounts. I suspect sales have not delclined despite the advent 991.

Other side of the state on I-70, about 12 miles from the Ohio River / West Virginia border, two hours east of Columbus.

You did the right thing by walking away. Update #3 will be this same dealer calling you back to counter their counter offer. I am sure...

Update #3

I want to clarify something about my offer.

I have no idea what the dealer had in the car or what he is willing to sell it for. I was offering what I felt I could spend on that car. I wasn't trying to steal it or expecting the dealer to take a loss.

I actually had the dealer call me back and I thought we might meet in the middle somewhere but in the end I decided to hold tight until I find what I think I will ultimately be happy with.

The search continues...

Good for you. Besides, the hunt is the best part. Cheers.

Most likely the dealer punched the card in November because there was trunk money to reduce his "cost" in the car. This was an effective tool for Porsche to show higher sales.

I dont' know about the price but the CPO is unnecessary. While the car has lost a year's warranty on time it still has the 50K mile warranty. Problems arise from miles driven not the time the car sits unused.

As long as you can put some miles on the car in the remaining 3 years the partially consumed warranty is no biggie in my opinion.

(I bought an 03 Turbo in 09 with just 10K miles on the car and the car came with a 2 year, 100K mile CPO warranty. Fortunately I was able to drive the car some and I put nearly another 50K miles on the car before the warranty expired on time in June of this year. In that 50K miles of driving some 'new car' problems surfaced and were taken care of. Had the original owner driven the car more than 10K miles in the 6 or so years he owned the car these problems would have surfaced under the new car warranty and been taken care of.)

Sincerely,

Macster.

Sincerely,

Macster.
Macster,

This is where you and I disagree. I was very pleased to get a one year old car (from "in service" date) that was also a CPO car. The day I bought the car, I had 5 years and 3 days and/or 97,055 miles of warranty remaining on the car. That is "peace of mind" to me.

I do, however, agree with what you are saying about driving the car. Miles, not time, will will bring most of the issues to the surface.

$2900 for CPO. It must have gone up. When I bought mine in 2009, the price was $2000.
