Leather Console

I recently removed my console and had it and my shifter frame covered in leather to match the full leather interior on my 06 C2S cab. The plastic console had become marked up a little, as well as the front of the shifter frame right by the little storage pocket at the bottom of the PCM center stack. The ashtray lid had to be shaved to allow for thickness of the leather. They also covered the filler piece that fits in the emergency brake slot. I sent the switch for the cab top control so he could ensure the leather didn't interfere with it.
The leather match isn't perfect, as the texture is more pronounced and the color is slightly lighter (stone gray), but I think it looks so much better than the plastic console. I considered having it painted, but thought with the full leather interior the leather console would look even better.
I had it done by Classic 9 Leather Shop in Michigan.

I'm very pleased with the new look. Here are some photos.

The cost depends on what you get covered. I had the ashtray lid, compartment lid, and shifter frame done as well as the main console. Total cost was in the $700 range, which isn't much different than a proper repaint. To save a little turn-around time, I paid a deposit to order the leather, then sent the console once the leather was in stock. I removed the wiring loom from the console so that I could keep it connected inside the car while the console was out. If the passenger airbag warning light on the console is not kept connected, a fault will be tripped when the ignition is turned on. So the car was drivable while the job was being done for 2 or 3 weeks, including shipping time each way.

Wow, looks nice. And $700 is a great price. That's a lot less than what it would have cost to get those leather options when the car was new. 2008 prices: Rear center console $1260, storage bin lid $295, gear shift trim $250.

Kevin,
That looks GREAT! I imagine that the color difference is due to the 5 years the original leather has been in you car. Leather will get darker with age, cleaning, and conditioning.
$700 is a great price.
Current prices on Porsche bits from Suncoast, that has some of the lowest prices you can find from Porsche dealers.
Leather rear center consile $2,895
Shift Console Trim $409
Bin cover $279 (with Porsche crest)
Total Price $3,673
Getting all of the done for $700: Awesome!

Looks really great!
I was looking at the wear on mine (2006) and was thinking painting or covering in leather? Once you put some leather conditioner on it & give it a few months I 'll bet it will be a match. Thank you for the post.

Looks good, job well done.
The only thing that's a bit of a miss, is the leather pattern and thickness, it looks different than stock (which is smoother and thinner). Did you get options of different leather hides to choose from?

I want this done so badly. A painted console is nice, but nothing beats leather.
The work here looks pretty good, especially for the price, although I think the seam right under the parking brake button would bug me, but I am sure its only the angle of the camera that really makes it show. From the driver seat its probably not visible.

You made a good investment. With today's "slush finishes" they simply do not hold up in time. I went with a significant amount of natural leather in mine because of that very issue. High traffic areas are the first to go, and frankly I'm surprised that Porsche didn't elect to put even a high quality vinyl in those places.

For the money I doubt you could get a better overall improvement. But you can't beat the quality and consistency of the factory work, as shown in Edgy's post above. I think for a new car, I would seriously consider getting the console done in leather, and spread that higher cost over more years of enjoyment.

Edgy is right. I have full leather in the Turbo too....including the rear center console. Great addition.
