Default Headlights always on

No, I'm not referring to my wife. I've noticed that the headlights on my '06 997S are always on and I can't figure out how to turn them off. I've looked at the manual but it doesn't help. Are they supposed to be on at all times while engine is running?

Canadian car? We have laws up here that dictate the headlights to be on at all times. Safety. Was it imported into the US?

Hmmm... This being said, my 997.1 is from California and the lights are always on. This may have been added after importing into Canada so maybe there is a setting in the computer somewhere.

There is a feature in the PCM settings on cars with sport chrono to enable daytime running lights (in this case, headlights). If you uncheck it, the headlights will not come on with the engine start.

DRL (daytime running lights) can be optioned on or off. If you have Sport Chrono option you can do this via the PCM, if not dealer can do it.

Guys,

I have a 2006 with sport chrono and had hoped that the DRL feature turned the lights on that sit below the headlights in the front bumper without turning the headlights on. Unfortunately this is not the case. Does anyone know how to turn those lights on by themselves? I do like having some "low" lighting on for visibility to others during the day, but don't like having the headlights on for this purpose.

The high beam bulb assembly/reflectors are used for DRLs due to their greater distance visibility.

It's under individual key settings in the PCM for Sport Chrono cars. Your car is likely Sport Chrono as there isn't auto-DRL on US 997.1 cars as there is in Canadian cars.

Zeus - often times the US selling dealer reprograms the PCM to activate DRLs for cars going to Canada, or the Canadian importer may do so. On sport chrono cars this is completely unnecessary because it can be optioned on/off in the PCM as mentioned above.

If the dealer reprograms it then you lose the ability to toggle DRL on/off on key settings in PCM. The dealer can reset this for you if you like. I use my car for movie work once in a while and DRLs are often not wanted for that purpose.

Dealer can fix it in 30 seconds if the tech is familiar with the process.

On 997.1s AFAIK, DRLs are simply the the activation of the headlights without activating the instrument lighting. So DRLs are actually low-beams not high beams as is the case with many NA mfg cars.

If your car is the one in your avatar--go through the menu for set up and either turn them off or on. You have the Sports Chronometer package.

I have set the DRLs to ON in PCM but they do not come on...any ideas?
Can that setting be overridden by "dealer settings" and if so can I change it back with Durametric?

It is also a function of the key you have assigned to that function. Are you using the same key?

Anything wrong with DRLs? Other than decreased life of bulbs? I like being visible...

Come on man - you might as well ask about oil viscosity too.
