Easycare vs other warranty options

Hi folks:
I'm considering a 2005 base Carrera, low miles in the teens, no CPO.
Got a quote from my local dealer today for EasyCare. I was expecting something fairly high, but the numbers are way more than I've seen on the board.
The top of the line total care plan, 48 months with 500 deductible is $5,398.
The powertrain plan, 48 months with 500 deductible is $4,398.
I'm curious to know if others are seeing prices like this...

How many miles are on the car. If it has more than 25K miles, then there is a considerable jump in costs. I just purchased a 5 year 60K TotalCare warranty with $200 deductible on a 2007 C2 with 12K miles for much less than you were quoted.

In 2008, I bought a Easycare Totalcare, 5/50k/$500 for less than half of your Powertrain plan quote.
Before I bought it, I priced the plan at several dealers around town. The prices were all over the board, and all negotiable.
Many dealers sell Easycare, you don't need to go to a Porsche dealer to get a plan for your Porsche. Check out what your humble VW dealer is asking too.

I bought a 36 month EasyCare BEFORE my warranty ran out for 3k. I think you may be getting a higher quote as the original warranty has passed, correct? I've already used it for a sheared flywheel. There's lots of searchable threads on the subject of to have or not to have an extended warranty but suffice to say there are many who like the idea. I would get 3 quotes and make your decision. I sleep better with it. Time will tell if it was a "good investment" etc... Please let us know what you find.

I've heard good things about Easycare, not sure about other companies, they might also be ok, but at least I haven't seen any horror stories with Easy Care around here.

Car has no existing warranty, low miles - 15k- for its age. It was their first volley for a price and those prices include an immediate offer to lower policy options by $300. I've reduced the numbers by that amount.
My guess is they will call back in a few days to see if I am interested. I may be able to negotiate with them.
The thing that concerns me is that some things are excluded, including cylinder sleeves that do not fail from lubrication. I think that has been a point of failure for some cars...

There is a huge difference in cost on these warranties based on whether the car is still under factory warranty or not. Given that, the price they quoted you is about $1000 high. You should be able to get a 48mo/50k mi with a $500 deductible for $4500-4600 for a car with less than 20k mi on it.

Just remember that with most extended warranties most cars fail based on miles not time! More mileage equals more time for parts to wear and/or break. Nobody usually sees it the other way and time is usually what runs out before the mileage portion for folks. There are two trains of thought...some who say take the $$ an put it in an account or credit card set aside for those repairs while others say get an extended warranty. Best advice is its usually its a personal decision. You could buy it and never us it or get one and need it fairly quickly. If it were me I'd go see if I can find a CPO car. Plenty of them out there.
Good luck.

The prices can vary considerably from one dealer to the next, so definitely negotiate. I got quotes from one dealer to help me lower the price at a closer dealer. Just tell them based on other quotes you've received, they are $1000 too high.

Make sure it covers IMS issues as that can cause you $20k for a new engine. $5k seems a bit high, I would avoid 05' MY if it's in your budget as they are less prone to ims problems. Preferably 06' with cpo.
