DE's and TPMS
I recently mounted a different wheel and tire set for an upcoming DE. They do not have TPMS. My parts guy, who tracks frequently, says its ok. Anyone think its a problem passing the tech inspection? tks
Tech? I'd say 95% of all Porsches do not have TPMS. You will have a warning light on your instruments is about all. I always put TPMS sensors on my track wheels to be able to monitor pressure during events. Not because I think it's accurate, but because it will show me rises and drops in pressure. Had 1 situation at Watkins Glen where I had a valve stem failure that slowly made me lose pressure. Knowing that pressure is dropping is useful.
TPMS on track wheels are a pain anyway... I have them on my track wheels and I get a "flat tire warning" at the beginning of every session because of the lower starting pressures... I might as well have saved the $400 and just lived with a "TPMS not working" warning instead...
I don't think it would matter for tech as it really doesn't affect the overall safety of the car.

Either way you are going to get warning lights. On a $100,000 car I didn't think spending $400 for track TPMS sensors was unreasonable, especially when it can provide a useful function.
I always have the 4-tire pressure display on my car. So on the track it just reads out the pressure and I don't even notice the 1-time warning. Mine will go from say 23 psi to 35 hot on the track and that's where it's useful. If I see the 35 start to drop on the track, I know I have a failure somewhere and can pit in.
