Anyone knows if 997.1 "S" engines have had any ECU upgrades since 2007?
and if so, can it be done at dealer for free, even if the car has no issues?

My car was at the dealer for a mysterious CEL issue (which turned out to be the result of a wiring error in installing PSE a few months prior) and one of the "cures" they tried was reprogramming the ECU.
At the time they did mention that ECU reprogramming is not normally covered by warranty and would cost a few hundred bucks. They waived it in my case (good thing!).
I don't know whether the reprogramming is intended to be a remedial firmware "upgrade" but I suspect that this is only done to "fix" aftermarket ECU modifications. Hence the customer charge to reprogram the ECU.
I guess Porsches aren't like Windows and iTunes with frequent and free firmware fixes.

Definitely not a standard firmware upgarde like other devices, but I had my Audi upraded once at dealer (similar to your situation)... wasn't sure if that's common on Porsche.
