The K40 uses old Beltronics/Escort parts. The M2 platform. For the money that the system costs, you should receive that level of performance. It is like spend the same amount of money as you did purchasing you Porsche, but getting the workmanship and performance of a Chevy Impala.

Both Escort/Beltronics and Valentine Research (Valentine 1) offer a 30 day trial, where you buy the radar detector, try it for 30 days and if not satisfied you may return it for a full refund. Buy a Valentine 1, Escort Redline or 9500ix, or Beltronics STi Magnum And run it at the same time ad the K40 and compare the alerts to your K40.

Had them put my Escort 9500xi smartcord hardwire setup in the car also so I think I'll do a comparison to see which is most effective. This installed system or my 9500xi. Post with more to come!

FYI, out of all the radar detectors I recommended the IX is the least sensitive, the Redline is the most sensitive.

Do you have the laser diffusers for the K40?

It is a common sense that gold is very percious and now more and more people like the gold metal, and more and more people now join ge group of hunting for treasure and gold. This is like the "gold rush". But what is different form before is that now people use more advanced equippmemt to help them to find the gold. And it seems among different equippments, people like the gold metal detectors most, because that such a device can help them to identify the detail information of the metal so that people can find it in a short time.

Drive by any supermarket with automatic doors and see if they light up and make noise. Easy way to know it might a radar detector.

The best radar detector is to pay attention when you drive. No tickets since I was 18 and I have owned a lot of nice cars that get exercised regularly.

I have one friend who has never received a speeding ticket with 25 years of driving. Reason is he drives right at the speed limit or 5 mph under. I don't drive with him anymore, bores me to death and I feel myself aging rapidly.

Thats aftermarket stuff. I'd think its for a built in radar detector or some such thing.

I was hoping it was a missile control system!

I have an Escort Radar/Laser System. I also have a Laser Interceptor in the front (I have the Escort's laser set up only for the rear)

I put the Laser Interceptor in first after getting a laser ticket last year. Then this spring, my nephew gave me a used Escort, I believe SR7. My nephew is a mechanic at a Ford Dealership and they strip these types of things off the cars before reselling.

This summer on a beautiful curvy mountain road, I was nailed with "Instant On" radar by a state boy. With Instant On radar, all the radar noise out there these days and the really annoying blasts from Traffic Sensing Radar popping up seemingly everywhere on the highway, I was starting to wonder if having a radar detector was still worth it. Well, it still saved me from the the photo radar vans, so I diligently plodded along with it down low as "heads up" type of warning.

This week one evening I was driving home after two beers and the radar detector went off. At first I didn't see anything and thought it was just noise, but checked my speed anyway. It was a cop buzzing up the road from behind me at a high speed trolling. I was given the heads up I needed and was really glad for the warning.

The Laser Interceptor saved me for the second time today. I questioned how well these worked because it seemed to only go off every couple months or so and there wouldn't seem to be anyone there. The first time the Laser Interceptor saved me it scared the hell out of me. I saw the cop sitting parked in his car of the side of the road staring at me with the gun. With the Interceptor blaring (and the hair standing up on the back of my neck), I slowed down quickly and turned the system off when I hit the speed limit. I kept looking in my rear view convinced he was going to come after me, but he didn't.

The Laser Interceptor saved me again today for the second time. I was on my way to work on a six lane road posted 30MPH where everyone goes at 40. It went off and I didn't even react that quickly, it took me a second to register what was going on, but I slowed down turned it off and cruised right on by! The cop was on his cycle parked and it didn't even seem to phase him that he didn't get an immediate reading.

Twice in one week to be saved, once by the radar and once by the laser system, is enough for me to really appreciate having it on my car!

Sorry it's not a missile control system, but congratulations anyways! Keep it on keep it low, get used to the radar going off from noise and that annoying Traffic Sensing Radar and it will save you too!

I'm guessing you don't drive as much or as fast as the rest of us. I pay attention but cops go out of their way in NY to find hiding spots and also run instant on.

A radar detector is a sensible device to employ and money well spent.
