I love this car. I'm not a big fan of the black, but I think the "metallic" part of it could make me overlook that. I love the interior.
However, here's the reason I'm not yet ready to pull the trigger: I'm betting on a $4-7K price drop when the 991 starts delivering. For me, waiting a season or two will be worth the drop. It'll let me get a 997.1 more cheaply or maybe even let me bump up to a 997.2 (or at least get up to a 2008 car instead of a 2006 car).
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm willing to wait and see. I wonder if this is the reason you're not getting many bites, Mike.

Similarly, I doubt the 991 coming out is going to significantly affect 996 or 993 prices either, since they are in a totally different price bracket.
The point is... if you want the car, buy it now and enjoy it. Cars will always be a depreciating asset because newer and better one are coming out all the time. They're not an investment body and you should look at it from the perspective of how much enjoyment you can get out of them now.

There are a LOT of 997 owners out there who will be selling to upgrade to the 991. Some of them will be 997.2 owners with lots of money who always need the latest car, and some of them will be 997.1 owners who have been waiting until now to pull the trigger. The former group will increase supply in the used 997.2 market. The latter will increase supply in the 997.1 market. And prices will come down. Fine examples of the 997 (like this one) might not come down $7K, but they will come down. I'm not expecting the bottom to fall out, but I am expecting a noticeable difference.
The 996 and 993 probably won't be affected because fewer people will be selling those cars to upgrade to the 991. If they were going to upgrade, they probably would have already done it with the many 911 evolutions since their cars were new.
Your point of "if you want the car, buy it now and enjoy it..." is terrific, given unlimited funds. But for those of us who are trying to afford this car, waiting 6 months to spend the same money on a newer car makes fiscal sense - especially after a new model comes out.
We'll see if my prediction is correct. There are lots of factors that might raise or lower the market prices of these cars. I'm hoping that the newest Porsche I can afford will get newer in 2012.

I am surprised that after 6 weeks, still only a couple emails on it and only 1 person from here (rennlist). Gotten a couple other email's/calls from another online ad I put up. I looked online and found that '06-'08s with about the same mileage are asking in the 53-59k range.

True, I have it on Autotrader as well for the last 6 weeks which is where I got some hits on it. One guy is talking about driving here from DC for it, he should be letting me know tomorrow or at least by the weekend what's up.

On a side note I've been looking for almost 1 year for the right car and the OP price is about what I'd feel comfortable paying for a car with that kind of mileage private party. My main apprehensions about the car are that it's over 2000 miles away and it's been tracked. Of course current 997 owners will say the OP's price is too low, but that's because they have delusions and all want to believe their cars are worth more than they actually are. And I don't think anyone is buying an 06 with 40k miles for 59k. They may list for that but only a fool would pay it.
