How long is your snowboard?
A 164cm board with bag barely fits in my cab, but I have to lower the top (carefully!) to get it in and out.
No major adjustments to my driving position (I'm 6'5").
Shorter ones should slide right in.

Daily driver- check
Carry 50 pound dog- check
Carry 2 year old son- check
Winter driver - well, I live in Hawaii. Don't have a roof rack for surfboards (have another car for the beach) though I've seen some older 911s with boards on top.

My board is a 159, so, it should fit without problem. Plus if I go the Targa route, having the hatch that opens should make it a snap. If I go the coupe route, I guess I'll get a roof rack for the winter.

Don't use mine as a DD only because I take the subway... but we do take our 2011 997 C4S everywhere, with an 8 year old and a 4 year old in the back - we all love it. Goes from the track to dinner.
Ran into a friend who didn't know I had recently gotten the car. Kids walked by. He said "Nice. Shame you'll have to get rid of it in 2 years:. I said "The kids ? Nah, we like 'em, we're gonna keep 'em"

That said, my dogs are ~12 lbs each, winter in S. Florida is pretty much like summer up north, and my daily commute is ~15 miles round trip. So my opinion probably doesn't do you all that much good.

I advice against going to one car only. My 997 is my only car, and daily... however, I do NOT drive 25K/year, and I don't have a dog, although I put winters on and drive to Whistler in winter... so it works just fine.
I'd say get a 2006-2007 C4S, AND, then get a Wagon A4 or Audi A3, or even a cheaper VW (vs. R32). I really think you'd be pushing it trying to do all of above with just one car, specially with a dog in the back.

Your dog isn't exactly a lightweight. I have a hardtop for my 07 997 4 Cab and love it. Yea, it's a pain. It creaks, and makes some noises but I like the way it looks and it feels real solid on. Dogs in the back? That is not a good idea. I know I wouldn't put my two Weims in my 997 unless I didn't have a choice. I have a 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee for them and the bad weather days or just running dirty errands - like mulch, plywood etc. Good luck with your decision.

Had a Cayenne TT for winter for awhile really hurts to trash the interior of these beautiful cars and inevitably the muck salt mud from your boots and the dogs will hurt. If you have a long drive to the mountains it will also get a little cramped with gear people and dogs. One other problem is the low front lip- In vt often theres a good center strip of crud - ice - snow that the front lip clearance may have issue with and thats expensive

used my gone but not forgotten 2009 C4S as dd including winters (just have to slap on winter tires and store the summer tires for 4months of the year in the NYC area). Now using my 997.2tt as a daily transportation and it does not suck. 2 kids and a dog fit right in and my 5yr old boy insists on riding in daddy's race car. Porsche, there is no substitute.

I noticed that everybody who says they use it as their daily, also has other go to cars in their stable (and/or live in metro areas and use public transport.) It's easy to use a 997 for a daily driver, but knowing you have a substitute in the garage (that can actually carry stuff) makes a big difference.
This kind of thread comes up often. Of course you can use it as a daily. Using a 997 as a daily is one thing, but having one as your ONLY mode of transportation is another thing all together.

If it's the only car then the roof rack would be a big plus. I've even see one guy strap lumber to it. Not esthetic but consider all the possibilities... mattress, wind surfer, canoe, lugage/cargo carrier, spare tire even.
