Am thinking of trading up in my p-cars and have thought about trading my moderately optioned '09 C2S w/pdk launch car for possible an '09+ Carrera twin turbo maybe. However I wonder if this would be a valid upgrade and if I would really get much out of such a change. I drive my current C2S weekly but it is not my daily driver. Have about 11k on it and enjoy the PDK but also enjoy the feel of driving a 6sp manual also. Have not tracked the car and don't really plan to currently so that is not a critical factor. Just wondering if the $$ spend and time already put into my C2S would be worth it as far as the turbo is concerned? Thoughts and experiences appreciated!

How much is the additional HP worth to you? I would think, for your needs, the C2S is more then adequate. I'd keep what you have and enjoy. Maybe sign up for a track event (or even AX) and really learn to drive/understand what you have even better.

if money lost is not a concern, i'd totally go for it. it's an outright upgrade. i don't think you'll regret it one bit.

But I also kinda agree with a previous post that unless I take the car on the track I likely have not come anywhere near exploring its full potential or mine...OR enjoying either!

Not everyone considers the move from a Carrera to a 997 Turbo an "upgrade." Porsche intentionally provides so much variety in the 911 line that the customer can pick and chose what is important to him/her. What you will discover in a turbo is a substantially heavier car, less dynamic, and more dampened responses. I know many who have 'thought' that a turbo was supposed to be the pinnacle of 911 ownership, only to go back to a Carrera/Carrera S. Some of those who remain with a turbo do it for reasons other than handling and features--like as a status symbol. Those who are more honest with themselves move to the car that they get the most enjoyment out of. Sometimes that could be a Boxster or a Cayman. Ultimately, a 997 Turbo is way too much hp for the US highways, and ultimately creates a way that is far too easy to lose a license, unless you have tremendous will power.

Edgy01 Has a very valid point. However, there is nothing like accelerating with boost.. you feel like a fighter pilot.

No doubt the TT would be a performance upgrade in some ways. I agree with Dan. The question you have to ask yourself is whether that extra performance will really be useable. I find I can't begin to explore the acceleration and overall performance of my C2S PDK on the street, which is one reason I autoX. If you're not going to track the car where will you be able to use the extra power? If you've got the place and are willing to spend the $$ then it might be a good buy for you. Aside from the possible psychic satisfaction of owning a Turbo, realistically, it wouldn't be for me. Besides, I like the lighter, 2WD, NA feel of the C2S. YMMV.

Just drove a 07 TT with Tip and 09 C2S PDK yesterday and I felt very dissatisfied with the TT. Granted it was only for 15 minutes each. It was my first time driving a TT and I had high expectations but felt short changed. It was like going to a 5 star restaurant and felt it could/should have been better.

TT: straight line, very sluggish off the line. Had to wait after 5000 RPM to feel the power. Around the corners, it felt like it was on rails.

C2S: felt the car just wanted to go right from the start. Not as tight around the corners compared to the TT.

The salesman was trying to sell me the TT but I wasn't impressed.

an '07 w/Tip is NOT the proper way to use a TT unless you are disabled or a woman

but your point about throttle response is well taken. if you REALLY want throttle response (like goosebumps) try a GT-3 of any flavor...

Turbo boost is like crack. Yes there is turbo lag but once it KICKS in...................
I would buy the turbo.

Since you are not planning on tracking either car, the only real world advantage to the TT over the C2S is all-wheel drive. However, with so much power to the wheels, that advantage may be diminished in rain/snow/ice. Instead, you may want to consider a C4S. It has the same hp as your C2S, has the benefit of AWD, albeit with a little more weight, & is way cheaper than the TT. FWIW.

Another consideration is maintenance and insurance costs are higher with the TT than the straight S.
