Default Mirror mount for 9500ix on a 997 dimming mirror

Please don't convert this topic into a discussion over which radar/laser detector setup is best, this is for those that have already decided on a 9500ix, wish to mount on their rear view mirror but have an auto dimming mirror like the ones found on 2009+ 997s.

The situation best I can figure it:
1) The Blendmount mount available doesn't fit the newer 997.2 auto dimming mirror (says so on site/is obvious)
2) The Joy Crafts mount doesn't fit on these 997.2 mirrors (I tried it myself, the mirror loses most range of movement - can't see through it!)
3) The mount offered by Bumper Plugs is only for the Valentine One
4) The 'bike parts' do-it-yourself option doesn't work either

As such I am out of options here. Has anyone heard of any of these folks planning on making something for the 2009+ 997s with auto-dimming mirrors?

-----background for those that must know, but this isn't the point of this post---

1) I live in California so I'm not sticking the device to the windshield (illegal)
2) I chose the 9500ix because of the GPS capabilities that afford some auto learn capability to remove most false alerts
3) I don't want to go all-in for a stealth install (K40 360/9500ci/whatever) - yet
4) I don't want to put the device on my dash or visor
5) I'd plan to remove the device when parking/leaving the car

This is the way my mirror looks FYI:

I thought there was a mount that attaches to the platic parts on the mirror arm. You had sparate the two halves and drill some holes.
Nevermind. It is call the G bracket and is for the V1.

The group sponsor "Blendmounts" (banner ad at top?) also doesn't offer a solution that works on the auto-dimming mirrors.

I'm curious what you find.

It will be hard to find any part that will work with those mirrors because there is not enough "stalk" or extension to accommodate a mount. It may be time to find out if the old adage "necessity is the mother of invention" is really true.

Nope - Blendmounts doesn't make one for the new mirror. I was hoping we could generate enough interest and posts here to get Eric of bumperplugs or someone else to make us a custom mount. You've already got the V1 mount Eric, how about one for the Escorts?

This is the Bumperplug custom mount for the V1 units by the way:

You know what your problem is? You don't have the best radar/laser set up. You need the 9500ci! It's the best...

(Sorry, I couldn't resist...).

LOL. Sorry... I am just in the process of investing in the 9500ci. It's the same electronics as the 9500ix. I just have trouble with the dash/visor/mirror being exposed to preying local hwy patrols...

The 9500ix and 9500CI are not similar in the least. The radar antenna in the CI is different from the IX. The CI antenna is much better, and is the same antenna as the Escort Redline. Before you invest in the CI, look at the Beltronics STiR+. Very similar to the CI, but due to customization and programability it performs much better than the CI. FYI Beltronics and Escort are two divisions of the same company.

trying to steer the thread back to the original question.....
I am having the same question and just found this:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...rt-9500ix.html
The mount he used came from here: http://countryjoycrafts.com/escortmount.html
Not sure though if it was done on a self dimming mirror

I have the 9500xi and would be interested in a mount that is more stable attaching to the rear view mirror instead of the suction cup window mount.

I just noticed that I resurrected an old thread. I did a bit more research and found that pumperplugs now has a mirror mount (for the auto-dim mirror) for the Escort 9500ix detector. I ordered mine yesterday.

I spoke with Eric from Bumper Plugs and he confirmed that his mount will only work with the self-dimming mirror. Does not help me so I checked out your tip on Countryjoycrafts.com and the 5/8 inch version looks like it can be modified to work on a standard rear view mirror. I ordered it and will follow up. Thanks!

Now that you've got the answer to your question, I have one based on a statement in your original post. Windshield mounts are illegal in CA? If they are mounted in such a way as to not obstruct your vision (i.e., low just above the dash) there is no problem???

Just drove 1,000 miles up and down the 5, the Escort Redline worked great mounted in this position.
