The Everyday GT2RS
Just had to share this experience from last night.
My wife and daughter and I went to grab a bite at a Jason's Deli last night and decided to take my 14-year-old Landcruiser since it doesn't mind short runs like this.
As I'm turning into the parking lot, I notice a 997 with an aero kit behind me and think, "Interesting. I wonder how far this guy has gone with the mods to look like a real GT3". As we park, he pulls into the Take-out spot next to us at which time I notice the centerlock wheels. So now I think, "Oh nice, this is a real GT3. And he's driving it to get takeout in 100 degree heat (Frisco, TX). Very nice indeed!"
But then I notice this particular GT3 has side air intakes like a Turbo so I'm a little confused. The Turbo didn't offer centerlocks as an option, did it? He hops out and walks in ahead of us so I take a peak around the back of the car to see the badging and Holy SH**!!, that's a GT2RS. I'd seen a new one in the lobby at the dealer in white but this one was all black which I hadn't seen before. Carbon Fiber hood in matte black with glossy black elsewhere.
Stunning.
And then it hits me. This a $245K car and the fastest production Porsche ever made and this guy is taking it out to get take out. The new Porsche commercials that depict them as everyday cars are one thing but this was nothing short of inspiring.
The worst part was that when we got inside the restaurant, I was dying to go up and introduce myself and tell him about my '06 997.1 Carrera S and congratulate him on his car and ask him if he's going to track it and so on and so forth. But then I realize that I'm the goofball that just hopped out of a 14-year-old Landcruiser and I'd been painting one of our bathrooms earlier and could be mistaken for homeless at that point.
I wouldn't believe me either.

There's nothing wrong with going up and introducing yourself. You were probably the only other person in the place who knew what he was driving. Really knew.

I do drive up in my C4S at D'Leon's on 27th (near work) and also at the one on South St (near home) in Lincoln all the time. As At Law would most likely testify, the car is way out of place.

GT2RS in Frisco? Really???
There probably aren't many Porsche savvy people in Frisco. I would have asked him how he liked his GT2RS and let his response determine the direction of the convo.
Michael.

There aren't many car-savvy people period.
The other day, I was driving along side a few of my co-workers going to a dinner meeting when a sports car drove by us. When we got to the restaurant, everyone commented on that "cool sports car" but no one knew what it was.
It was an '80s BMW M1.
Yesterday, I had a similar experience when an Ariel Atom drove by me on the highway. I doubt there are many people who knew what that "thing" was.
