I believe the 997.1S claimed top speed is 182mph & the 997.2S is 186mph

Top speed of a car always requires full throttle unless you hit the redline first and that isn't going to happen with a PDK, nor even a 6MT. Neglecting factors like tire expansion and tire slip when delivering all that torque, the speeds in gears are:

PDK: 43, 73, 101, 129, 155, 190, 270
6MT: 43, 72, 107, 131, 155, 190

My owners manual is silent also, but it includes the ratios and I used the speed I have at 3,000 rpm in sixth as a baseline and extrapolated the others. That means they are derived from the indicated value and subject to round-off error since the digital speedometer only reports to whole mph values. Those who care for more precision need to rent a radar.

Now about the 0-60 times ? Porsche is Conservitive with what they list. Why ? No idea.
It's because they don't want to get sued in the US for the car not delivering what's advertised.

This sounds about right as max power occurs at 6500 rpm. So max speed is 6th gear and just below the red line. dave

Yes. Vmax on a PDK car is reached in 6th gear. 7th gear is a cruising overdrive - it's there for economy to get more EP leniency. I bet the same will be re the upcoming 991 7spd manual.

Below are the 997.2 PDK and 6spd gear curves:

Oh, very good, Tony. Did you plot those yourself? Or did you find them somewhere in the owner's docs that I overlooked?

Guys I know that track a lot, are easily exceeding the 120 mark, all day long, on tracks like Road America. At the end of the main front, before turn #1 speeds of 140-160 are reached for sure. Correct, for short bursts.

Got it. In a quick check, my estimate was 1.46% higher than yours. Guess we can live with that either way.

IIRC, I've seen charts like that in our Owner's Manuals.

I wanted to chime in on the "sustained speed" issue. I participated in the 2003 Gumball 3000, "rallying" from San Francisco to Miami in 5 days in a virtually stock '99 996 (Fabspeed exhaust was the only mod). My co-driver and I had no problems driving for long periods (hours) in excess of 120-140 mph. During one stretch, we made it from Reno to Las Vegas in 4 1/2 hours (not bad when you factor in gas and bathroom breaks). No overheating or other adverse effects/consequences....

Had my 10 GT3 at an indicated 183 in fifth and diddn't bother shifting up, enough is enough, so the 194 claimed top end was probably real.
