My god, the abject bollocks that gets spouted on these forums and then when repeated enough, ultimately passes for fact.

3.6 and 3.8 M96 engines have the same design and IMS bearing.

If you want something to make you sleep better at night, ejaculate right before turning out the lights. If you want to have a cracking good car to drive whilst you're awake, then buy an '05 that has been driven regularly and properly maintained, and have the LN bearing retrofit done. It'll net cost you less than an equivalent '06, have still less chance of IMS failure, and allow you to check and, if needed (probably not) replace the bearing in the future.
