Just came back with my lowly 997.1 from the Shell station. One guy said "nice car!" and several others were staring as if the car was the second coming. My car attracts admiring looks wherever I go, as I'm sure is the same for every other 997.1 owner here.

There is no such thing as a "lowly" Porsche 911.

By the way, when I told my brother I bought a 997.1 and forwarded him pics., the first thing he did was book a flight to come down and see it!

Never had so much fun in a car in my life!

Agreed...even my 996.2 gets the "nice car" at the gas station many times. Plus my wife and boys (5 & 8 yrs old) all fit for short rides. Great summer time fun heading to playgrounds and ice cream parlors on the evenings and weekends!!

I totally agree. I too have a 997.1 and few weeks ago, after a good wash and polish, had it downtown during the last hours of light and had repeated thumbs up and nice car comments from people walking across the street, in cars etc... The fact is it's a BEAUTIFUL car. And if I dare say so has a nicer looking front end that 997.2.
I just got home last night after a week long business trip and fired him up this morning and basked in the smell and sound of him. Wonderful. Yes, the new ones are nice BUT so it this one. I am fortunate to own him.

Your kids fit in the back??? Is it roomy enough for them?

I don't think any Porsche can be described as "lowly".

They don't mind for short trips about 45 min tops otherwise we take the VW van.

Funny how whenever I enter my Shell station in my "lowly" 997.1 base, folks always stop what they are doing to stare-once in a while I get a "nice car!"

Most folks can't tell the difference between a 911 turbo and 911 base, nor do they care, but they will stare long and hard at either one.

Nice one David!
I love your story and we obviously enjoy similar experiences.
Porsche even published this little vignette of mine.

Would love to read your story, Bruce, but I can't get the link to work. Maybe on my computer tomorrow.

P.S. I got it, Bruce, and I remember the original post. Very cool!

Great pics, Doc! Maybe someday your children will use these photos as their avatars on Rennlist. That would be cool in about 20-30 years.
