This place seems like a great source of information and hopefully someone can render some advise here.

Currently driving a 2007 997.1 C2S Cabrio Manual.

Recently tried to retro-fit the Porsche Sports Exhaust in my car. Installation and fittment went ok until i tried to fire up the car. I have no idea why but everything is being installed backwards.

1. When i press the "exhaust button" on the front panel, it turns off
2. When i off the button, it turns on but when i rev it up past 3,000 rpm, the PSE turns off by itself.

Very frustrating. I double check all the wirings and valve tubes and cannot figure out whats wrong.

I followed the TSB installation guide and in there, there were 2 wirings to follow. One for 2005 and 2006. I tried both and found that only the 2005 wiring works (but in backwards). The 2006 wiring does not work at all. Its funny because my car is 2007 and i would expect the 2006 to work.

Anyone here is experiencing the same problem when retro-fitting the PSE?

The "turning off" is above 3,000K RPMs is to allow the cars with PSE to adhere to Euro noise abatement laws. It "turns off" at about 25 - 30 MPH and turns back on again at about 45 MPH.

As for why it is "backwards"... sorry I can't help with that part.

Thanks for the insight. Its an interesting concept.

So is it correct to say that when i start the car and press the button, at idling, the PSE is on? So when i start to drive off, the PSE is off?

However, turning it off at 3,000 rpm would not make sense since we are usually reving it high around 3,000-4,000 rpm. Does it mean at 45mph and above regardless of rpm, the PSE would still be on?

So what is the concept of the PSE and how does it normally work?

You might be much better off and in more control if you just disconnect the PSE from the DME and simply put in an on/off switch. Most aftermarket installs are done this way to just avoid messing w/ the DME. Do some 'PSE' searches on this forum and others and you'll get a bunch of hits regarding PSE switch implementation.

I had a hidden (ashtray in the center console) switch on mine that I changed to a latching circuit w/ an OEM PSE Exhaust Switch Button. I had to modify a panel and carefully integrated the new switch and wiring. I attached an image of that mod for your review.

Can't help with your wiring issue, but here's a great alternative system (and this avoids the issue of having the PSE go off between 25-45 (or whatever speeds those are):

Thanks . . . I get sort of **** on projects. This was one of them. It took a lot of very careful dremel work on the panel to fit the 'Exhaust Switch'. Since it's a momentary (on / off) switch I had to put a semiconductor latching circuit w/ a small relay to pass the 12 volts to the PSE solenoid.

It defaults to the 'loud' mode upon start up. Depending on location, situation (wifey in the car) etc. I simply press the switch to go 'quiet' and then again to turn 'loud' back on when the 'situation' warrant it. (lol)

Personally I love the PSE 'loud' mode!

Wow, very nice mod. I too like the "loud" mode on perpetually but want to have the luxury of turning it off when the need arises. I just want a simple "on"/"off" solution and i think AP997S might just have the right solution for me.

Question is how to go about doing it now?

PSE is not that loud, and you'll want to hear it all the time, IMHO. Mine is wired to be in the "sport" mode (loud) at all times. Love it.")

With the full factory PSE set up the drop in volume was not due to European regulations--it was all due to Switzerland. They have highly restrictive sound regulations.

If your 997 is equipped with the PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) system it quiets down between 45 kph and 75 kph (28-47 mph) to comply with strict Swiss noise abatement regulations.

(It's another reason why these cars don't beep when you lock the doors--it creates noise.)

Don't quite understand the question. What do you mean by 'stuck the new switch'?

I just skipped the panel switch and put an off/on switch in the ashtray, in
both my 06S and my 09S.
