Default preventing the rear wing squeak

i think some of our brothers have experience on this one. i just had the rear wing mechanism replaced on warranty but i fear that after another year or so of use in sun and rain the thing is going to start squeaking again. I know Porsche warranty service is great but it is such a bother to have parts replaced. It makes the car look old. screws get scratched etc. etc. Dan are you around i think you have some experience on this...

Extend the spoiler (with manual override) and then take a close look at the mechanism. You will see where the sources of squeaks come from, usually those black tubes on either side. Within them is where the spoiler mechanism resides. Get something as simple as WD-40 and squirt it into the drain holes. Exercise the mechanism several times to make sure that you've solved the problem. It may take several applications. Be prepared to apply this over time as the lube washes out.

I use silicone spray, sparingly. wD40 is not a lubricant, its a water displacer.

I have used silicon spray effectively. Avoid a true grease product. Too messy to get in there.

It also works great on the rubber window seals & the rubber between the frame & the Cabriolet top. No more moaning & groaning from the Cab top.

lube washes out, i had lithium grease on mine, it all washes away over time.. technically you should NEVER hear the squeak if you leave it alone (i.e. goes up at high speed, goes down at like 35mph...) if you can hear the squeak whilst driving then you have far more sensitive ears than I.

my thoughts are your raising it and standstill to be one of the cool cats with a spoiler up?

I raise mine before I wash it & afterwards I dry it off. Other then that the rear wing does it's own thing.

same thing. that place gets dirty fast and one of the details i try to keep is to clean the undeneath of the wing when you wash. i guess all these small details are the ones that keep people at the dealer saying the car still looks new even with 15k and all the pollution we have here, and with a white car, man, diesel smog can make your carrara white dirty white in no time.

i actually looked at the car with the spoiler up in standstill... way cooler with it down. that sexy wing down behind is so seductive....

Actually, it is both.... It's a hydrocarbon (when in liquid form = petroleum)

Feel free to use it to lubricate the squeeks AND keep moisture away when washing the car.... As a side, my dad used to put WD40 on the bottom of his Sunfish when sailboat racing with his buddies in the 60s and 70s. He won a lot of races!

Random Trivia: WD40 stands for "Water Displacement - 40th attempt"
