Airbag release seam. Normal.

Yes, it's the airbag release seam, but I don't think I'd say its normal and your's looks much more prominent than other pics I've seen from people who've had a similar complaint. FWIW, I've had 4 Porsche wheels with the round center airbag section ('07 Boxster S, '09 PDK button wheel, '09 PDK paddle wheel, '11 Cayenne paddle wheel) and none have had a seam that you could see.

Funny this should come up. Took my 2007 C2 to the dealer for this today and they said it's normal for 997.1. I can only assume that if they thought they could get away with changing it under warranty they would...

Pelican has the replacement for $600 for it's not the end of the world.

My Boxster S was an '07, the same year as your C2, and had the optional 3 spoke sport wheel with the round center airbag cover. It had no visible seam. I did have the full leather interior so maybe there's a difference if the cover is vinyl instead of leather.

I've never seen one that pronounced. My 997 had the multifunction steering wheel and there wasn't a hint of the seam. I guess as others have said it's considered "normal".

Very interesting. My 911 doesn't have the leather...maybe others could chime in regarding the crease and leather or not?

the full leather interior cars are very often that prominent, your flash doesn't really help either.. (makes it look worse.

its just the release seam, my 997.1 full leather was just like that, same way the pass airbag is more prominent on full leather interior as well (have to sewn in breakaway section)

Mine has that crease. But nowhere near that prominent. More like Sfrank's photo. I have full leather. Though I'm pretty sure that center of the steering wheel is NOT leather. It's a bit hard to tell, but full leather interior is not really entirely leather. They should call it "mostly leather", not full leather.

My 997.2 with the round airbag also has it. I do not have full leather but I also think the airbag cover is not leather in any car. I recall searching when I first noticed it and concluding Porsche considers it normal.

Here are pics of 3 wheels; my original '09 Carrera PDK wheel, the PDK paddle wheel that I replaced it with, and my '11 Cayenne S paddle shift wheel. The centers appear to be leather but I won't swear to it. Anyway, none have any sign of a seam. If the seam is "normal", against all odds, I apparently have 3 highly unusual examples.

i coulda sworn my 997.1 full leather had leather on the airbag, it was def smooth like the rest and not "textured" like the faux parts.

Leather on the steering wheel center and I have the seam. But my wheel is old too so maybe it has changed.

I do believe that even if you have a "full leather" interior doesn't mean that you get a leather steering wheel center. the faux leather in the center of the wheel version (i looked at both when i bought my steering wheel) is quite good. the faux leather in the middle of the wheel is much better than the faux leather that appears elsewhere in the car. I'm not sure if i would be able to discern that it's faux leather if i had not seen the comparison.
