Smile Looking to Buy 07 C2S cab, Where and how much

Hey guys
I have been lurking around the board for a while and after getting ride of my 04 987 S a couple years ago I have been waiting patiently for the chance to reach the financial position to pull the trigger again.

I know how many feel on the warranty issue but I am wondering on where you would look to buy and what price I should expect to pay for a reasonably good condition car.

I am in Western Canada so would like to look mainly on the West Coast so I can travel to check it out.

Really looking on opinion on buying from a dealer vs. private sale and what you would expect to pay as the asking price range is rather broad.
Thanks
Jason

The asking prices are broad on these cars because the MSRP on these cars could have been potentially tens of thousands of dollars apart. Keep in mind that there were some 65 pages of options on the 997 in those days (and with even more today). True, many options get zeroed out on the used market, however, they still have to be factored in. My guess is that you will have to pay roughly $60,000 for a used 07 S Cabriolet that has not been abused. I'm not sure if you can still find a Certified Preowned (aka used car) from Porsche on an 07. Many times the private sales are just as good or even better than a dealer car. With a private sale your skills at sizing up the owner(s) can prove useful to determine if the car you are looking at was abused or minimally driven.

When I was looking CPO cars with lower mileage the dealers were holding hard at $70k and were in the $67k range uncertified. I had a friend search manheim and the prices paid for 07 C2S cabs were:

Type Odometer Price Sale date Auction Engine T R Cond Color Sample
CABRIOLET 7,049 $66,000 03/31/11 MANHEIM 6G Abv BLACK N
CABRIOLET 18,528 $60,750 02/17/11 MANHEIM 6G Abv RD N
CABRIOLET 15,020 $58,000 02/23/11 MILWAUKE 6G A Abv BLUE Y
CABRIOLET 17,603 $55,000 02/23/11 MILWAUKE 6G A Avg BLACK Y
CABRIOLET 24,367 $53,000 02/17/11 NEVADA 6G A Avg BLUE Y
CABRIOLET 25,330 $51,000 03/17/11 MANHEIM 6G A Avg SILVER Y

Above average cars were $58k and up plus fees, transport and profit so you are going to be in the mid $60's for the right car. Euroclassics Porsche in VA is asking $74,995 Certified for the second car on this list that they paid $60,750 for at the auction.

I just bought an 06 C4S cab in Van with 14k kms for $65.7k. I was looking NA wide. I think you will do well to get an 07 in the same range (the AWD may have added to the cost but many are not looking for that)

I have been looking in California as there seems to be lots of stock. Is there major differences between Cali cars and the other 49 state models?

Just purchased a 07 coupe with 6k miles for 57k with CPO. Dealer would have accepted 54k without warranty. Probably could have squeezed the dealer for another 500 dollars but needed to pull the trigger that weekend .

No differences in these cars at all anywhere in North America, other than languages on labels and speedos. As long as you buy a US car with Sports Chrono you can even turn the daytime running lights on yourself so the modification cost to import to Canada is virtually zero.

I know of a nice '06 C2S cab in Vancouver that can be had in the 60's, but the owner is out of the country until mid-July.

Drop me a PM if you want more info.

What I saw during my search was $68-72k certified for an under 20k mile car and $66-67k non-certified. Some were lower but had higher mileage and some were asking much higer prices. Check cars.com or autotrader.com for available inventory.
