Mystery Number on Bodyshell
During recent exhaust r&r, I had to take out both rear light assemblies. I found these mystery numbers scribbled in the paint, under the clear coat on both sides on the car. On the right "14" and looks like "7" on the left side, in body cavity where the taillights go. Since each side of the bodyshell is painted by hand, I assume these where put there by two paint men at the factory.
Can anyone confirm?
What numbers are on your bodyshell?

Years ago the rumor was that some body assemblers used to sign the bodies inside that area of the car. Porsche put an end to that unofficial practice a long time ago. It's hard to say what the purpose of these numbers could be today.

Yes, the Porsche factory show is exactly where I learned that the bodyshell's primary color is applied by two factory painters, one on each side of the shell. The rest of painting process is done by robots, including application of final clear coat. Since the markings in the tail light cavity is in the base color coat and are clearly of humanoid origin, I assume each painter marks his side with personal number. Sounds like a plausible explanation to me . . .
