I am about to pull the trigger on some track wheels and tires.

My car is black....

Should i get:

Black or Matte Graphite?

Also I take it you car is a 997? If so make sure you get 9x18 and 12x18...11.5x18 will work ok too. I see so many that mess this up and get wheels that are too narrow.
Tires sizes that fit and work great are:
245/40/18 and 305/35/18

or

255/35/18 and 315/35/18

imho allegeritas still do not have 9" wide fronts. that is kinda critical thing to reduce understeer, rear rim is not that important - it may be 11.5" or 12". but you do not want to have 8.5" front, 9" is much better.

hummm....I would not want 8.5 front and 11 rear for track wheels. You are limited to tire sizes and it is much much better to stretch the side wall than to undersize the sidewall. I can't preach this enough for high performance driving!

Will your sizes noted above work...yes they will work but there is better out there. Never go cheap on track wheels...never never ever ever. Remember you will be driving the car 60%+ harder than you can drive it on the street. That side wall moving around and using cheap wheels will affect your outcome if you are trying to get the most out of your driving and the cars potential.

They're track wheels, right? They're going to be brake-dust and tire chunk colored no matter which you buy.

Mike - I did some more diligence as i do appreciate your feedback and I am not trying to find the cheapest option but the best option for me....

There was a string of posts on 6speed about these...see below some posts.

- Hi ____, I'm also sorry the wheels got damaged so soon, the wheels were used the way they were supposed to (I hit the track twice a month), I have to say that I tend to push a bit hard, and sometimes I do have "moments" at the track, bends are not that uncommon in general and mine were minor and repairable, Rims are OK now. In general O.Z. Alleggeritas are cheap and look good. Nevertheless I feel these are more suitable for litgher/smaller cars like minis, miatas, lotus... or for more occasional use.
I'll try now the three piece E88's, they are not that light but they are easier to repair and look Great!!

- Honestly, this is the FIRST instance I have had of someone bending them in a track environment.

- Mine are still flawless after 50+ sessions of 25 minutes each, including many sessions, back-to-back (50 minutes without stopping basically) at Laguna Seca spread over three months... Running 1:37's on Hoosier R6's. I'm not pounding the kerbs hard or anything, but I AM on the kerbs in pretty much every corner.


-Here's my 2c... I just spent three days beating on my Alleggeritas at Laguna Seca.. 10 sessions per day (two of us running in different run groups), two days = 20 sessions.. Lap times at 1:37 - 1:41's (pretty fast pace for stock engined car) zero issues with them.. I was running Hoosier R6's with 245's front and 315's rear.

- I have previously owned Fikse FM5's, HRE's, and a set of Kinesis wheels all for track duty... The OZ's fit perfectly, look great and held up under some pretty serious abuse (other than REALLY pounding the kerbs)... I like them, especially for the price.


I was a little hesitant after reading some of the comments here but i my give them a try... This car is my DD for now and I am doing maybe 8 weekends a year...I have Nasa Hyperfest at SP in 2 weeks and the Zone 2 event at VIR in 3 so i want to get something before....

If I were you, I would really hesitate about going down to 11" in the rear. You have room for 12" rear, with 9" front, with the proper offsets. If you are going to use the wheels for the track, you might as well get some wheels that will improve your performance. Just my $.02

I've been reading lots of threads about track wheels and tires size. Many of the experts here preferred running 245/40/18 and 305/35/18. Based on the tire size, most of the manufactures recommend or approve 8.5 and 11.

So can experts here share more insight with using 9 and 12 rim? Thanks
