No worries...

Now once I get the new emblems, it should be interesting to position
them smack right in the middle

I would say use some painters masking tape to position two parallel horizontal and vertical lines...

I plan on measuring the width of the rear, find a rough center line, put wide masking tape vertically down the center. Measure again and mark the exact middle with pen on the tape. Measure the width of the emblem, divide by two and measure from the centre line the left and right edges for the emblem. Place the edge of the tape on those lines. Run the tape from top to the bottom of the engine cover. Now you can remove the tape marking the center.

For the horizontal lines measure the height, subtract the height of the emblem, divide by two and mark in from the outer edges of the cover. Mark on the vertical masking strips using a pen. Then place masking tape horizontally between the marks.

Stick the emblem in the rectangular area in the middle

I'm tempted to remove the chrome Carrera 4S off my black 997 and replace with the black 911 emblem. Not sure though as the 911 is matt from what I have seen. I know you can get a chrome one but I thought an understated look would be good.

Thank you for the measuring technique. That is great. I just took off the Carrera emblem this afternoon with the Glide dental floss and a hairdryer. It worked perfectly. I am thinking of ordering a "911" emblem from Bumper Plugs painted Midnight Blue, the color of my car. That might give it a nice touch. The reason I had to take the Carrera emblem off is that the last time I took my car into the Porsche Stealership they tore off the top part of the "C" in Carrera when they washed the car. I was pissed. They order me another Carrera emblem which I have it but may not end up using. I think I like the 911 emblem better. Anyway I am going to try the car without a script for a few weeks and see how it goes. Thanks for all the help. This forum rocks!

+1
They cracked my Carrera script last time they washed it. The dealership guys definitely don't pay attention to details. A Porsche enthusiast cares more about the car and is more particular than those at the Stealership.

Centering these things is not a simple process. Definitely take your time and use plenty of blue tape and measure and measure. Have someone else's set of eyes in the distance available as the final authority to say--you got it nailed. Measuring these areas is not an exact science. Unfortunately, we all don't have that handy dandy centering guide that they have at Zuffenhausen.

My long-time MAJOR pet peeve with dealers is that no matter what else they do right, they all seem to hire the lowest common denominator minimum wage idiots to jockey the cars around and do things like license plate install. At least my dealer had enough knowledge to NOT install the front plates, but the rear plate on my TT is just a little crooked, no doubt because some minimum wage idiot was sloppy.

"hey, Bubba, here's a car some fool is paying more for that you will earn in the next decade, think you can drill some holes and put this plate frame on?"
