All About Black Lug Nuts
I found some Black Lug Nuts that fit the 997.2 that I drive, but I was advised not to put them on my car because they do not have the built-in floating washer that the stock lug nuts have.
Has anyone found a black lug nut that does have this floating washer?
By the way, I have no idea what a floating washer is, but I intend to go home from work today and remove one lug nut so I can educate myself.
Any ideas?

With the usual bolt type wheel fasteners, there is a captive washer which is there to distribute the load of the fastener. Porsche does things for a reason.

My old 997.1 had black lug caps. Looked great.
Got 'em from Wheel Enhancement.

Don't drive too fast though...the caps have been known to come off at speed. Somewhere in this forum is a great DIY how to paint the OEM bolts.

Believe me, there's no way those covers are coming off at any speed.
You need a special tool just to take 'em off on purpose.

There is a great writeup on rennlst on how to properly paint the aluminum lug nuts. The process requires (in the following order) etching...a conversion coat (alodine)....priming....painting...clear coating. I did this recently....came out like it was done from the factory.... however you still need to use a soft socket as anything else will still mar the facets (edges) of the nuts.

I know OP asked about lug nuts but I think he really wanted lug bolts. I don't think Ralph has black bolts...maybe he does and just doesn't show them. It's worth a call or email though. He's very responsive and a great guy to talk to.

Has anyone considered having their OE lug bolts sent out to be anodized? Any reasons not to do it?
