Default 997.1 S or 997.2 none S

I am enjoying reading all of your discussions on this forum.
Considering 08’S or 09’ none S. This is as high as I can reach for a weekend car, no track use. It is very hard to test drive with a salesman next to me. Usually, it took me months or thousands of miles to know. Any of your thought and experienced is appreciated.

i would vote for '09 car - even if for warranty coverage alone.

I would suggest the 09 car. The DFI engine was introduced in 09 as well. Resale may be a bit better on the 09 but not completly true. Technology updates occur in the 09 car as well such as interior PCM upgrade and exterior lighting. either way you can't go wrong.
The HP bump and technology gains put the 09 non -S close to the 08 S model IMHO.

If you get it CPO, even better.

I have a 997.1 C2 and it's plenty car for me. The S would be nice but I'm not such an experienced driver that I would notice the difference.

One thing to note is that most "plain" cars have been ordered with the options that the S has as standard (e.g. xenons)

I would vote for non-S '09, if looking at 997.1, I'd go for '07 "S" cars as they have more depreciation and better value than 08.

PS. I got a C4S '07 and it's fantastic

If only a weekend car why not even an 06 S? When i was doing my search I found serveral with <30k miles for low 50's....I have noticed a big difference in $'s for 2008 vs 2006 and my understanding is not much is different...

Thank you for all the replies.

I am agree 09 C2 should be a better car, newer tech and still have factory warrantee. They are also a little more $$. For the Boxster, S feels a lot different than none S. But in this case, 09 have DFI and PDK. I am not sure if they have the same suspension. No offense, I hate owning a low-end car. C2 is the base of 911. I feel a little embarrass to look at other 911 drivers. Just like you are driving a Corolla and looking at the Camry. I think we are paid 30-40% more for the tag and rarity. The more $$ you paid, the less they are on street.

06 and 07 don’t have factory warrantee any more so the price has a big gap. And if they are CPO, most of them have over 30M. Also it is very hard to find one that like new. Driver went in and out of the car for over 5yrs, the leather seat will be wrinkle.

better value? broad stroke there...

so you'd go '09 1st choice, or '07 (like yours) 2nd? how convenient, like an '08 is ****ty value??? - thanks!

mine is CPO'd thru 2014.

do you want DFI? if not '05 - '08 are your choices.

you want the least expensive - likely to be '05 - '11; non-S - S (respectively)

My 2006 997s was/is in pristine condition and still smells new...I looked for about a month and found it in Charlotte (was a Florida car)...PPI checked out fine. Paint is flawless.

Bought with 33k miles from a single owner....Got all services records.

Also - my 06 was <$50k versus an 08 I looked at that was ~$60k. Will the warranty save me that much over the next 3-4 years? Maybe it will or maybe it won't...

Just the way i looked at it for this car....

Full disclosure I have bought extended warranties on other cars...one paid for itself and one didn't.

The answer is in your own thoughts and not us.
Each of us has what we think to be the best one to own. I like the sound of the PSE on a 997.1 S car as opposed to the DFI cars.
I agree the 09 DFI engine is fantastic and I would not be embarrassed to own a C2 at all. I love the look of the wide body car, so the 4S was the way to go for me.
Each to their own and enjoy !

997.1 S vs. 997.2 non-S :

engine power is nearly identical (355 hp, 295 ft-lb vs 340 hp, 288 ft-lb) so that is not really a factor.

Pro .1 S :

Lots of good stuff in the "S" package : big brakes, 19" wheels, PASM
IMO the .1 sounds better, .2 really needs PSE or exhaust mods
End of lifespan model is very well sorted

Pro .2 non-S :

New DFI engine appears to be very solid
Better gas mileage
No IMS worries
Newer PCM is much better

I just moved over from a 997.1 C2S Cabriolet to a 997.2 C2 last week. Let me tell you the difference between the cars is astonishing. The 997.2 is truly a different car in comparison to the 997.1, it is much smoother, definitely feels more solid, and the PDK along with the new PCM is brilliant. My only slight drawback is that the 997.2 C2 does seem a little ordinary when driving around in non sport mode, the car wants to get to 7th gear (PDK) as quick as possible and just cruise.
Personally I would choose the 997.2 CS all day long, I'm very happy with my choice switching over from 997.1 C2S to 997.2 C2.
