I know, it's at the end of the spectrum from my 997; however, it was hard to pass up! It's a 1973 914 with the 1.7L engine. Was a long trip (14 hours) but I'm happy to have it home.

Congrats! Can tell us little more about car and the hunt. Two of my brothers had 914's in college, one of them a 914-6. Great handling cars.

 

Very cool - I always liked that little "1.7" badge on the back...

 

One of those was my first Porsche back in 1974! It was a great first Porsche. This one looks really decked out with everything. The Mahle gas-burner wheels are very nice. The car also appears to have gained the rear bumperettes which arrived in model year 1974. Looks really nice. I wish I had room for another mint 914 today! Here was mine--in Zambezi Green (a 1973).

I had two 914-6's in the late 70's. A Green with S cam's and distributor and then an Orange. Great cars.

I was originally looking for a 911 SC or something similar but everything in the price range I wanted to spend needed $$$ work. A couple of months ago a friend picked up a 914....and I was really surprised! I guess I had always bought into the 914 "scorn" and never considered them a Porsche. But, these are surprising nice cars!

I came across this one by accident. It is a show winner and has had extensive bodywork (no rust) and mechanical restoration. The owner gave me a book of photos of the restoration and all the receipts on things done over the years.

It looks like a real prize. Anyone who debates the issue of whether a 914 is a worthy "Porsche" doesn't deserve your time--and sadly, there are many Porsche snobs out there!

 

sweet. I have had the good fortune to drive and ride in some pretty fantastic cars. Nothing is as fun as driving my 914!

I'm having some paint work done, and I am really missing it. Once it returns to my garage, the 911 will take a back seat, so to speak.

 

Chances are the dash has been covered. This is common and if done correctly, not typically noticeable.

Thanks for the memories. My first Porsche was a 74 914 2.0. I drove it all through college, including two round trips across the country. What a fantastic car that was!

Actually...it really is the original and is not covered. It was an Ohio car and I think it did not have a chance to "bake".
