Driving naked (warranty-wise)
This week my 6-year CPO warranty runs out. After giving it considerable thought I've decided to skip the extended warranties and go it on my own. The most compelling reasoning was put forth here by someone who suggested saving the premium money each month and in time that will, in all but catastrophic cases, cover most any repair. These cars have proven to be very reliable, mine's been very well maintained over its 64K miles, and the RMS was already replaced (no IMS, but I like to live dangerously :-). So off I go into warranty-free land!

Since you seem to be the original owner, then you know if the car has been abused or not. I bought mine second hand and purchased a warranty.
Just did a full transmission replacement to the tune of $7k and it cost me $200.
RMS and IMS areas looked fine but I am going to have them checked one more time in a year before the warranty runs out so I can take advantage of the warranty further if need be.
Good luck.

I have a 40th Anniv. 38K miles. Second owner for 5 years now. No warranty. No problems so far but I can afford to fix anything that may fail.
For OP, at 64K miles I'd figure any mechanical issues would have been sorted out by now. Enjoy!

In my experience...
I my experience my 997.1 has been less than expected in terms of reliability. Under the original warranty I've replaced the wiring harness, front shocks, communication unit (radio, etc...) and now into the after market warranty for a cracked flywheel and IMS AND RMS. From my viewpoint, I don't track but I drive the car like it should be driven. I am not interested in babying a 100k+ racing heritage car. So it really does come down to classic insurance decisions of whether you have the cash in your jeans to pony up for mechanical breakdowns or a one time security investment for after market warranty. I chose the latter. Had it been a Toyota, forget about it.
