Default Ferodo 2500 on 997.1

I am by no means an advanced track driver, just love doing DE events, and do between 4-5 track days a summer, and really do not have the time nor tools/place to swap between track and street pads.

Currently on my 997.1 C4S with STOCK pads, and Motul 600 fluid, I am doing *ok* on track. I just need to do proper heat management with brakes towards end of my sessions, and basically not to brake too deep.

I know there's almost a FETISH with Pagid pads and Porsche ... BUT, I was wondering if anyone's used Ferodo 2500 pads for dual street/track use? I think it's a stock Ferrari and Lambo pad, and I've used it on my Audi in the past with great success. Is it gonna be an improvement over STOCK 997.1 Carrera S pads?

Thanks!

I had the 2500's on my Exo X at the same time I had Pagid Yellows (RS29's) on my 997.1. I took the 3500 lb Evo X (Brembo brakes) to a DE, and the 2500's held up well without any fading during 20 minute run sessions. However, my rotors were never the same. The 2500's chewed them up pretty good, with noticeable grooving. The Yellows seems to be more rotor friendly, and have a much better feel when warmed up. There's a reason for the Pagid infatuation!

Well, Yellow cannot be used on the street though, also how can you compare rotor wear on Evo vs. 997?

I've had them on my Audi, and they were perfectly fine on rotors... was hoping if anyone's used them on 997.

You can use Yellows on the street if you do not mind the noise they make. Pagid makes a Sport pad that will be a little bit better than Padigd Yellows.

If you are using stock wheels and street tires do not get all wrapped up into using race pads like the Pagid Yellows....they will be a waste with out R-Comp tires like Toyo R888, Hoosier R6 and so forth. Stay with stock pads or at least a sport pad.

Definitely don't like the extra noise of a race pad.

That's exactly why I am looking into Ferodo 2500 (and not 3000 or Pagid Organe, yellow,etc)... as that's a Street Sport pad and did amazing on my Audi that had all sorts of issues with any other pad I used it with. From what I gathered I couldn't find a comparable Pagid pad for 997.

alexb...ok got it....well you could try them and see. Pagid (Im not pushing the brand) makes a blue series sport pad too. I've also heard awesome things about the Endless ME20 pads as a street/track pad. GMG racing sells Endless and will make some pad suggestions for you.

Let us know what you end up with and how it works out.

Thanks, might as well be the one who tests them out and report how they do on 997!

From what I could search, Pagid Sport pad is NOT made for 997.1 "S", or at least from the websites I've visited they were not available. Maybe I reach out to GMG to see what else they might suggest.

alexb, search for 2002-04 Turbo when search for pads. Same brakes as the 997.1 and .2 S cars and the 996 Turbo comes up more often on searches.

Ok, thanks, I did see some search and 996 Turbo gives me more results, but still not sure if Pagid 421 is available.

I also pulled the specs on both:
  • Ferodo 2500: Max temps 650C - Fricition coeffecient .50
  • Pagid 4-2-1: Max temps 550C - Fricition coeffecient .45

Doesn't this mean Ferodo would be better both cold and hot? Here's the heat chart for it:

vs. RS421

I've run both the Pagid Sport and Ferodo DS2500 on my '02 C4S on track and street. Found them to be pretty comparable, except that the Ferodo's are about half the price of the Pagid.

I think the 2500 is the best street/track compromise pad, although, it is a compromise.

Thanks for your feedback, I am coming to the same conclusion... very similar, while Ferodo being cheaper! as soon as stock pads are done, I'd be trying those out and will report how they do on 997!

Cheers!

PS. Is there gonna be a problem if I took out the half-worn stock pads off, used new Ferodo's during summer season, and then put stocks back when winter hits again? I've been told not to use old pads on rotors.

No problem usually when swapping pads just re-bed them each time

I think that's what I do then. Keep the stocks for winter and swap out to Ferodos for summer and tracking and will report how they do.

i've used both ferrodo 2500's and pagid rs-14's with stasis/alcon brakes on my golf r32.
the pagids worked way better on the track, but were a nightmare on the street - too much noise, grainy feel and very hard to get heat into them. they also ate my rotors. they were unbelievable on the track though, amazing.
the ds-2500's were fantastic on the street, very low noise, great feel, much easier on the rotors and lasted a long time. on the track they felt great too, but only realised when i put the rs-14's on, how much more bite i had going into the braking zones, i could brake much later with more confidence. if i didn't try the pagids, i wouldn't have noticed as i was pretty happy as i was also on r888's and ultraleggera wheels, along with kw suspension and lsd, gave the front-end a nice balance.
if you don't wanna keep swapping pads, the ds-2500 should serve you fine, they do both jobs very well, whereas the pagids do one job extremely well and the other, extremely unsatisfactory. pagids will allow you 10/10ths on track, whereas ferrodos will be at 8.5/10ths. if you are happy with 8.5, then it's all good.

Hello Alexb,

I just ordered a set of FERODO DS2500. I will get them soon. SO, how are they finally ? I've read several topics for brake pads, this discussion helped me a lot for my choice ! Hope you are happy with them.

Thanks
