My '09 997.2 has 11K miles on it. They came unpainted and are now showing since of road rash (especially near the rear wheels) and overall has a dull look. I am not a big fan of painting the skirts to match the exterior color and like the contrast of the metal and plastic trim. I would love to have the look where they sparkle like new in a satin finish after every wash. What suggestions does the group have:

1) Nanocoat (like the GTS side skirts).
2) 303 Aerospace protectant.
3) Black wow.

I worry about the durability of the protectants in the setting of weekly washes. Ideally I would want a "permanent" solution but can live with coating a protectant every 3 months or so (would prefer not do do it more often). I am thinking nanocoat. Is it even possible ? Has anyone done it. What cost am I looking at ? Thanks in advance for your assistance/suggestions.

Not sure what protectant... I however STRONGLY advise against painting them! I've seen cars with painted side skirts and the road grime and stones just make them look abstolutely horrible! Unless your car is 100% garage queen, it'd look WORSE than better!

Since you got C4S, why don't you drive on these until they're pretty worn out, then maybe swap em out for something like this

Alex, interesting that u mention that GT2RS sideskirt which comes standard on the GTS. I too love that look and have been thinking of swapping out at some point.

these black trim parts are about the same as all other black molded plastic grills, door side guards, spoilers, etc. You can fix them with light wet sanding w/ 600 and scuff pads, then paint w/ SEM black Bumper Coater
I do it to all my black plastic on all my cars.

Ah, that's interesting. Any body have pics of those on a 997 C4S ? I wonder how they look without any other aerokit bits.

My side skirts are beat to hell. I figure they're just an expendable part and I'll replace them some day, better for them to take the hit than anywhere else.

Oh yeah, another related thing -

right above the side skirt seems to be a real thick strip of clear bra material. Has anybody replaced that? Does it come off just like normal clear bra stuff? Anybody sell a pre-cut replacement strip for that spot?

I haven't seen one, at least my seach didn't yield anything. There was one from a Chinese/Japanese website but link didn't work.

Yeah side skirts are meant to be beat, hence keeping them plastic is the way to go. If one is ****, can replace with brand new and if I ever did that, would go for the GT2RS ones instead.

Yeah, I think it's a good subtle addition.. however, I am not 100% sure if GTS sides are the same as GT2RS, but could be the same. Suncoast doesn't list GTS ones, so can't be sure.

I am sure that the GTS has that side skirt. Read an article on the GTS on Total 911 issue no. 70.

Not debating, just wasn't sure... they *look* different, but most probably Porsche would build the same *wide* sideskirts to cut costs across models.

Those are proper skirts, they even have pleats.

I did this to the sides of my off-road vehicle and it is super durable. You can freshen it up by using tire dressing.
