Default Now THIS is how to break in new Porsche!

I picked up my new GTS six weeks ago tomorrow. I just received my license plates from DMV but haven't mounted them yet.

I have about 2500 miles on it, including 5 track days (Fontana infield, Pomona and 3 days on the Fontana Roval), 1 day of autocross, and 1/2 hour of continuous autocross lapping with a PSDS instructor (before we switched to their Boxster to conserve my tires.)

I ALREADY NEED NEW TIRES. Who would have thought that 3 days of hitting 140+ mph on a banked oval would be so hard on my PS2's??? (Yeah, I know... everybody.) I can get one more autocross out of them but I'll need new rubber before I go to the Streets of Willow and Chuckwalla next month.

I know they're not yet available as N-rated but I'm thinking seriously about the new Pilot Super Sports. Anyone have any thoughts?

if your usage is primarily track and AX then you may also consider getting r-comps but they will ear out even faster. if you can find new super sports in your sizes - get them for your street set.

If you serious about track I would get a different set of rims in 18" with cheaper rubber on them. or you will keep shelling out $1600 for nice street tires set every 3K miles.

I too am waiting for the MPSS. Should be a great tire.
Some say, a Porsche should be broken-in the same way it will be driven, but I wonder how PCNA would react to your confessions in an unlikely mechanical damage claim as a result of improper break-in procedure.

+1 to the suggestion that you get a set of dedicated R comp track tires and wheels so you're not burning through ultra-pricey street rubber every 3K miles. Also, I think it's absolutely great that you're experiencing the maximum potential of your car although personally I would have gone easier on it the first couple of thousand miles. But then maybe you don't plan to keep it that long anyway. On that note, FWIW, I'd be disinclined to consider buying it as a used car!

Generally, you can count of no more than 5000 miles on a set of tires when you are pushing it to its limits. You're right on track. Keep up the good work!

I got 16000 miles out of a set of Bridgestone RE-11s. That included three DEs. Those miles were on an 09 Cayman S which is probably not apples to apples on the rears.

You're making me jealous.

I have 500 miles to go on breaking in my new engine. Staying under 4000 RPM is killing me.
4/29 is our first DE of the spring and I hope the engine is ready to go loud by then.
I keep running errands and taking the long way home just to get the miles in.

Your way sounds like more fun.
