Great Drives close to Chicago
Does anybody know any good drives (curvy and exciting) around Chicago within 200-300 miles. I know I live in some of the most boring land in the country and believe me I would move if it wasn't for my job!

I do this every sunny weekend from about April till November. Some weekends I take the Boxster, others I take the 993 Turbo. Out the door by about 4:30 AM and back home by 1:00PM.
The roads around New Glarus, WI are awesome. Plus, I can buy 93 octane, NO ethanol, in Janeville on the way home. Round trip, door-to-door is right at 320 miles. Most fun with your clothes on.

At least Chicago is not as flat as Florida. No good roads to test out Porsche handling beside race tracks.

From my experience, any road heading 'out' of Chicago is a good road..

Another idea is to drive north down 83 into Wisconsin. Drive into Waukesha County. You'll intersect with 94 continue past Hartland. Take 83 to County Road K, turn left going West until you hit 67. Take 67 North going through Mayville and then to Theresa, WI.
Once you hit Theresa you can go right (South) on 175, which will connect again with 83, or you can go left (North) and continue on 67 (towards Road America). You'll quickly connect with Hwy 28. Take 28 into Kewaskum.
Hook up with 45 and go North until you hit 67 again. Go East on 67 and you'll end up at Plymouth which is a few miles from Road America/Elkhart Lake. A lot of Porsches, cool cars and great racing at Road America.
I drive this half dozen times a year. Beautiful driving roads!

Moved to southwest Indiana near Vincennes and even after 30 years the roads have not gotten any more congested. I'm blessed with miles and miles of two lane senic curvy roads all within 75 miles.
I try to get out near the French Lick and surrounding area several times a year. My local Porsche chapter is planning a drive from Evansville to the Overlook resturant in Levenworth Indiana. That drive is so amazing...there is a strech of 65-70 miles that is so curvy and challenging what a blast.
So if you can get down this way you will not regret it. Its about 250-275 miles from Glen Ellyn.

I think one of the biggest criteria I will use when selecting where I'll retire someday, will be the proximity to great driving roads. And grandkids. I'm +20 years out, but it's never too late to be planning.
