Default Dash Rattle

I'm getting some annoying rattles from my dash area. It mostly sounds like it's coming from around the gauge cluster. Is there anything I can try to fix this with out taking everything apart?

The gauge cluster is actually very easy to remove. Remove some screws, pull it back, unplug the single connector, and it comes out in one piece. I took mine out to track down cause of a clicking/creaking sound in my dash, which seems to be coming from under the dash cover around the left corner speaker. I wish mine were in the cluster, as it is easier to deal with. Good luck.

You know..for the money that we pay for a Porsche, I would think that there would be fewer rattles in them!! Mine has 3600 miles on it and has some from around the glove box-cup holder area!!!

There is a TSB on this issue. Ask your dealer to fix it for you. They should do it for free.

Sometimes the cup holder module is a problem. But not always.

I have had that same damn annoying gauge cluster rattle since 4,000 miles.
Every time I go into the dealer for a check up, they try to fix it. But it still
remains.

Wow, I thought my problem was an isolated incidence. It's such an annoying creaking sound. Sometimes I'll push the dash above the gauge cluster and the creak disappears. I'm thinking there is an ever so slight gap between the windshield and dash that causes the creaking.

That's exactly the sound I had from the instrument cluster. This is a known issue with atleast earlier cars. And it was addressed by the bulletin that Porsche put out.

had it and if you simply follow the advise that porsche recommends which is putting some felt tape in specific areas, it simply wont work. i had to bring car back about 3 or 4 times and insisted they put tape on other areas of the cluster... NOw totally no squeak from the dash area. the felt is the all mighty squeak eradicator.. even had a squeak on the footwell cover which was fixed the this all mighty tape.

That's increased weight! In all seriousness though, I agree with the previous post that at this level there should not be any issues like this. My Alabama built MB has absolutely no creeks or rattles at all.

I have the same issue on my 2010 C4S (2700 miles). Very annoying. Good to know dealer can fix. Will have them do it next time I'm there. Thanks!

Yeah. It is so easy to fix most of these rattles with felt tape, I wish they had just put the felt tape in at the factory to begin with!
You know, when you clip two pieces of plastic together, maybe it would be a good idea to have something soft in between; I for one would be happy to pay the extra five bucks for a full felt tape treatment during assembly.

I had some rattling from the gauge cluster as well. i noticed that if I applied pressure to the the cylindrical aspect of the cluster around 12 o'clock the noise would vanish. I inserted a small amount of 3M double sided adhesive tape and slid it between the cluster and dash to ever so slightly apply upward pressure to the cluster and the rattle went away. I was able to push the 3M material far enough in, that I don't see it.
