Default Finally! A plastic model kit of the 997

After many years of waiting, finally there's a 1/24th plastic model kit of the 997. It's a GT3R to be exact, made by Fujimi. I've got one on order. I have a wide collection of diecast metal Porsches, but there's nothing like building a plastic model kit yourself. I've read there maybe a street version of the GT3 that will follow as well.

Pictures of the model parts here: http://www.figure.fm/post/en/24955/F...e+911GT3R.html

OK, so you're thinking why did they choose this crazy racing livery? It seems Fujimi is a sponsor of the actual race car that does race with this livery in Japan.

Yes, the decals for the Good Smile Racing livery is standard with the kit. At first I thought it was some crazy Anime nightmare come true. But now that I know it's based on an actual race car, I'm debating on whether to build mine with my own paint scheme, use an aftermarket decal set (e.g. Flying Lizard) or stick with the Good Smile "Miku Racing" theme.

Frankly, I think applying the decals is the hardest part in building this kit.

Very cool indeed, I'm afraid if I buy one of those, it'll just sit in the box and never opened.

^^That might be a good thing. Maybe be a way to get a 997 that will actually go up in value!

I don't think there's any question. Looks like it will be a freaking nightmare of frustration, but very cool nonetheless!

These haven't made it to the US yet, I've only found them on-line. There are two versions, type A and type B, which represent slightly different racing livery depending on which race the car ran in the Japanese Super GT series.

Type A http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ18975

Type B http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10133244

You can also find them on eBay.

Default Finished

Well it took me a few months to build my kit. The kit goes together nicely and doesn't take that long. I just took my time and worked on it little by little. The Goodsmile Racing Miku livery decal set looked extremely challenging and I wasn't that keen on the anime theme. But it was the complexity of the decals that ultimately kept calling to me, I had to see if I had the skills to pull it off.

Maybe in a few months I'll buy another kit and build it with a different racing livery. But for now I'm happy with the way it turned out.
