Default Chrome Carrera S wheels ....

I'm a bit of a chrome guy. I have a 2003 Harley V-rod thats completely chromed out.
Anyway, I am considering swapping out my Silver painted Carrera S wheels for Chromed ones.
Are chrome wheels on P-cars bad mojo ???

It's your dime, do with it as you see fit. I've personally never seen chrome wheels on a 911, and I'm not sure I'd ever do it, but if you think it'll look good, go for it. I'd spend a few minutes with photoshop or browsing Google images first though.

If you're asking for an opinion, my opinion is that chrome wheels on a 911 would really look out of place. But that's just me; as others have said you need to please yourself.

chrome on Harley = ok
chrome of Porsche = horrible
But as others have said, in the end it's your $ so if that's what makes you happy, go for it (as much as it pains me to say!)

I have chrome wheels on my 356, but I would never put them on a modern Porsche. But its obviously personal preference, everyone is different.

However, on a practical note, I have heard that chrome does not last well on modern Porsche wheels, I am certainly not an expert but I think there is some incompatibility with the metals involved.

I would highly recommend you call Wheel Enhancement (talk to Dave) and he will give you HONEST advice and, if you want chrome, I am sure he can swap your wheels for chromed ones that would be the best you could get anywhere. (I am local to them, have been a customer for 15 years or so, and they are honest as the day is long and truly know their stuff.)

With virtually no chrome on the Carrera, anywhere, chrome wheels just look out of place, IMO.

Not a fan of chrome wheels myself, however it's your car, you mod it the way you like it, with that said, I do have a set of high-polished wheels sitting in my garage collecting dust if you are interested.

Chrome faded from the Porsche scene in 1974. That's when Porsche started up with black trim, etc. Porsche historically has been obsessed with performance, and weight savings. At least historically! As Porsche has broadened their appeal to more and more people the tastes of the customers have broadened as well. Much of the performance aspects of Porsche has been lost on many of the newer customers, who are more into lowering their cars for esthetic reasons, along with the addition of chrome wheels. Porsche would state that chrome wheels add nothing but weight to your unsprung weight--negatively altering the performance (handling) of the car. As an alternative, many in the past have sprung for highly polished aluminum wheels (not chromed) which give you the same look nearly, but without the weight gain. Of course, another big negative is the labor then needed to maintain that look. (That was why chromed wheels were invented--to vastly reduce the labor to keep them looking great).

From an old school guy, chrome wheels are just not a part of the Porsche scene. But for many, they absolutely have to have chrome. Ultimately, it's always a personal decision.

Here's an example of highly polished aluminum Fuchs wheels. When Porsche offered drop forged wheels that material takes to high polishing very well. With the change to cast aluminum wheels (as a money saving alternative) cast wheels can never be polished to that same degree. Thus, chroming came along.
