New tires - recommendations
Sorry if this has been asked a countless times before, but I'm in the market for some new tires. More specifically summer tires for a 997.2 C4S that don't break the bank, have decent wet performance, and some nice dry grip. Thinking about something like a PS2 or RE-11. Thoughts? Other recommendations? Problems with either of those? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I've been very happy with the RE-11 and consider them to be the best of the tires I've had on my two 997s. I've had the OEM PS2 and OEM P Zero and much prefer the RE-11. Some may not like the fact that the RE-11 isn't N-rated, personally I wasn't at all concerned and I love the tire. I'm also interested in the Super Sport and may give them a go next time around.

I agree with Edgy Dan- the Bridgestone REO50A's. When I got my new car, I was disappointed that I didn't get the PS2's. However, the REO50A's have been great- quiet, smooth, can hardly break em lose in the rain, etc. I like them better then the PS2's and they're a lot less expensive. The new Michelins may be the best but who knows since they're not out yet. It will be hard to switch from the Bridgestones when time comes.

I have Toyo Proxes 1's on now and am extremely impressed with them.

RE-11s are a good choice. I had 16000 miles and 3 DE weekends on a set with a little tread left. The new Michelin Super Sport looks to be a good candidate and I plan to get a set.
I've also used the HTR Z3 and it is a good tire for the money.

If you autocross or just want a really good no-compromise summer tire, I recommend you get Star Spec or RS3, depending on your climate and if you do HPDEs (Dunlop for mild areas, RS3 for hot areas or HPDE). If you're not competing, I'd just get Sumitomo HTR ZIII. While a few % off the fastest summer street tires out there, they're right up there with PS2 in wet and dry performance and are WAY cheaper.
Don't be afraid to go to slightly different sizes than OEM if the manufacturer(s) don't make the exact size you need. Going a little wider in the front will reduce understeer, too.
RE050A and Hankook V12 are both a step down from each manufacturer's fastest summer tires, and are more of a compromise between competition and highway driving.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I wasn't aware that of the Super Sports, but I'll definitely give them a look. They don't seem to be that much more than the RE050A's that came OEM on my car. It seems people really like the Sumitomo's as well, so I'll probably investigate those a bit too.
As for climate, I live in Boston. I don't drive this car during the winter, but, for example, I did drive it today in 48F weather. I do a fair amount of auto-x during the year, no DE's though, and while it isn't my main purpose for the car, I would like the tires to up for the task as I tend to throw the car around a bit in my everyday driving.
sjfehr, when you say I can size up, how much is a safe limit, and what are the downfalls of doing so? My C4S came with 235/35-19 front and 305/30-19 rears. I know nothing about tires except the fact that the first number indicates in mm, the width. Would something like a 245/35ZR19 fit the front? What other sizes would be safe for the rears?

Pilot Super Sport is on my wish list. Comparable to the PS2 in price with 30% better tread wear, as sticky in the wet as anything out there and much better in the dry than the PS2. Sounds like free money. If you have a 997.2, the car deserves the Pilot Super Sport, and you do, too.

If price is an issue I would get the Bridgestone "N" rated if I was only driving the car on the street. If I was using the car on the street and the track I would get the Bridgestone RE-11.
I am on my second set of the RE-11 and for an inexpensive street / track tire I do not think there is anything better on the market.
