Default quick oil filter question

Changing oil on 997.1, 3.6L
It's real easy, but...
does anyone know if the tiny, slight bevel on the oil filter replacement faces up (to the engine) or down (facing ground)? The printing on the filter is on the beveled side.
Thanks

My limited experience with 986/986 engines one 987 engine (Cayman S) is the oil filters are not directional.

Generally if a filter is directional it will have some writing on the filter that says this end toward engine or something to that effect. Now an aftermarket filter may not have that writing so you have to be careful there too. Yet another clue the filter is directional is if the inside diameter at one end of the filter is different in diameter than the other end.

This would arise if the spigot to which the filter must fit/seal to in the engine is a different size that the fitting on the bottom of the filter housing.

But the above is just a longer 'I don't know'.

You might visit a local Porsche dealer parts department and buy a filter and ask if there's any directional issues. Or speak to a tech with the service manager's permission.

Mark the price of the filter up to experience.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I don't know about the bevel you refer to, but it goes in and works fine either way. I never noticed a bevel. But you can slip it on both ways and it fits identically either way.
