Default Orange Cap

Does anyone have a source for ordering the "orange cap" for the air box. Any links I found in searching were dead. Thanks.

If you mean similar to the one that comes with the Schnell cold intake system, it is made by Caplugs:

Orange is faster. It's a scientific fact.

Steps :

1. Measure hole in airbox

2. Go to rite-aid / walgreens / what have you

3. Buy shaving cream with appropriately sized cap

4. Cut cap so it's shorter

5. Place cap in airbox

6. Enjoy howling sound at high RPM as OEM sound baffle is now defeated

7. Decide it's more annoying than pleasing and remove cap

8. Enjoy great OEM sound

Easy!

cbzzoom, I don 't like the "great oem sound." That's why I bought a Fabspeed exhaust and that's why I want to plug the baffel in the air box. How much sound the car makes is very subjective, so if you like your car quiet that's great...I don't.

I got mine through Vivid Racing (along with some other things) but here is the link to the Fabspeed page: http://www.fabspeed.com/997_997SCarrera.html It's their Cold Air Kit about halfway down the page.

Well in that case just do steps 1-6. It's a very flexible process, you can stop anywhere along the line.

I think I still have a trimmed Gilette cap if somebody wants to pay me $100 for my "cold air intake"

Old thread I know but does anyone have a picture of where exactly the cap goes? I have read lots of these threads but cant find a picture of the resonator hose and where the cap goes and then what you do with the hose itself?

Thanks

One of the 996 guys made a nice page about it :

Gilette - the best a Porsche can get!

You used to be able to get cheap "clean air intake" tubes on ebay.

Also detailed post for Renntech members :

Thanks but is the airbox setup the same on the 997.1? Also the Renntech method says you need to buy the Schnell kit for $100 first. Most other threads just talk about plugging the hose to the resonator. Unfortunately I havent found a "step by step" for the 997 with some pictures

I can't remember where it is but a search should get you the info you need. Try searching Fabspeed orange cap. Open your hood and check the air box - it's pretty obvious what needs to be plugged.
