And pay attention to the part about using fresh batteries in the opener. I couldn't get mine to sync and called Homelink. After I followed their recommendation and used fresh batteries it worked fine.

FYI, an 05 owners manual can be obtained here if yours is missing.

What timing, I just bought an '05 997S, but I have the manual and I still can't get it to work. I even changed the remote battery. I'll give it another try tonight.

Don't forget to turn the ignition on - no power to Homelink without it.

Also pay attention to the instruction that has you stand in front of the car and point at the fog lights. I didn't bother with that (I figure, it's radio so what does line of sight matter) and it didn't work at all.

Still no luck. Either I'm really obtuse or it needs to visit the dealer.

There might be a "frequency" problem if you're openner is a newer or more sophisticated model.

Apparently there was a broadening of the homelink frequency spectrum effective 2007 or 2008. The homelink in my '06 won't work with my openner.

Do a search, there are threads on this subject.

I have an '07, and the Homelink works with the opener on one side of the garage but not the (replacement, different brand) opener on the other side.

Some Homelink garage openers require 2 programmings in succession: once to pair the Homelink button in your Pcar with the remote control, and then to pair the Homelink button with the garage opener. You first program the button in your car with the remote control, then climb up the ladder, push the purple LEARN button on your garage opener, then run back to the car and push+hold the same button.

Hope this helps.

Some remotes don't work with the homelink system. My garage door opener came with 3 remotes (two regular sized & one keychain sized), and the homelink will not recognize the keychain remote during programming. However, programming homelink with the regular sized remote did the trick. I know it's not a defect with the homelink system on my 997, as I had the exact same programming issue on my new MDX.

Make sure you're using a big, clunky remote and not one of those tiny keychain-sized ones. Homelink needs a strong signal to read, which is why people also suggest using fresh batteries. If the signal is too weak (either from batteries or an undersized training remote) you'll get no indication of failure. It'll seem like it's working, but not actually work.

(like wwilliams88 suggested).
I'll try it out this weekend
