I am not certain your interpretation of the launch time frame of new 911 (991) is accurate. Mueller makes no statement about the launch date or launch time frame, but states "We will have the 911 Carrera in 2012 in its first full year of production."

He could be insinuating that 2011 will be a partial year for the production of the 991, since 2012 will be the first FULL year of production. Is he referencing the calendar year 2012 or the fiscal year 2012?

I could be totally wrong, but....... who knows?

AN: What are you going to introduce in 2012?

Mueller: "We will have the 911 Carrera in 2012 in its first full year of production. After this market introduction, we will also launch the entry-level models of the Boxster and the Cayman."

"What are your greatest short-term challenges?

We are bringing the next generation of the 911 to market in autumn 2011. In the meantime, we will get the phasing out of the current generation exactly right. In parallel with that, we are working on the technical concept of the 918 Spyder and Cajun."

I also noted that the 918 will be priced "significantly more" than the $250k GT2RS. And the theoretical "above 911" model 929 would be between those two - eg. closer to $300k than $150k. Lame.

your right, notice the previous question:

What are your goals for the next-generation 911 that you will bring to market this fall?

The new 911 will be the most successful of all time. Averaged over the life cycle, we want to sell 30,000 units a year. By way of comparison, in 2010 it was 20,000 -- at the end of the life cycle..

new carrera comes out later 2011, which means 2012 is the first full year for it... cayman/boxster the next year after they come out with 5 more variants once the new carrera drops.

Good point. I was at work and didn't get to read the entire article at the time I posted my initial comments.

Porsche are going to make a car to rival a MX-5?

I bet the new 8 models are going to look like - new 911, new Boxster, new Cayman, small SUV (Cajun), 2 door Grand Tourer based on the Panamera, facelift Panamera, facelift Cayenne etc. The 918 and other supercars are not going to increase the sales numbers much and it looks like that is their main focus.

Oh... maybe a Porsche Station Wagon based on the Panamera to follow the Ferrari FF

To be honest, I'm happy with whatever they do so long as they make money and keep the 911 in production!
